Quinn Direct rant

Ok sorry about this but i just need somewhere to vent this and possibly warn others about Quinn.

Here goes, well i bought a new car in July and was quoted 1700 by my current insurer (Hibernian) and thought that was a rip off, especially since my premium before on my van was €750. So i also got a quote from Quinn for €690, no brainer like, so i went with Quinn and took out the policy, and they said i had to send them proof of no claims, ok i thought no bother. Now i had bought the car in Cork, and i had to leave the van in Limerick with my girlfriend, thus i couldnt cancel the Insurance untill i had the chance to drive it home. I then drove it home a few weeks later, i then went to my insurer and got proof of no claims and posted it off to them. Then a few days ago i rang to make sure everything was ok, and Quinn told me they couldnt accept the proof of no claims as it was being used in both vehicles at once. What they suggested i do was i cancel my policy and set up a new one, now the quote they gave me second time round has mysteriously gone up. Id also have to pay the whole deposit the second time round. I dont know why they dont just accept it as it is, as they acknowledge it would be valid, its essentially just giving us both extra work. Totally ridicilous like, needless to say ill be cancelling my policy and going else where.

Im not really expecting help or anything, but im just wanted to have this story out there, to serve as a warning to others who are thinking about going to Quinn.

P.S. Sorry for the long post :p

well they are correct you cant use the no claims bonus on both, some companies may allow you to mirror the bonus if you have both car and van with them e.g hibernian do this, but i dont know any other that will...

Hmmm, I think this thread might be more at home in the Motors section.

Motors mods, apologies if this is misplaced, please send it back if you like :)

I find quinn irritating, but generally reasonable to be honest, and they are no better or worse than anyone else to deal with. I'm with Hibernian at the moment, but was with quinn last year. My sister is with quinn, and while it took a while to have them accept her driving experience for the purposes of an NCB, they did eventually and were €500 cheaper than the next.

I was buying online with quinn but the payment would't go through. Had to ring them and they then tried chargin me €50 more than the online price. I'm afraid to say i had no option but to rare up and ended up getting it a €100 cheaper. Still too dear:mad:

you ended up getting it cheaper than the online price which i presume was the cheapest quote you could get and you are complaining that Quinn are too expensive?? I'm sorry but this makes no sense. Quinn may be hard to deal with at times but if they are giving you a cheap quote you cant really complain about them.

Dont get me started on Quinn:
I went with them towards the end of 2006. They gave me a decent quote based on my 3 years no claims. I paid the full amount and they gave me a week or so to send in the NCB proof-which i did. A few weeeks later they called to say they never got it and I had X amount of days to send it in. After lots of hassle I got a second proof from my previous insurer and sent it in and they said all was good.
I then had to move to the UK and they had already said I could cancel at any point and get a % back. They wouldnt give me anything back in the end and wouldnt give me any proof of insurance; though they were quick enough to cancel the policy.
When I came back I bought a car and got a quote from AA insurance. When I asked quinn for a NCB cert they claimed I didnt have any bonus or record of being with them.
I ended up having to get a third proof of no claims and write off the year I had paid to be with quinn and I almost lost my entire NCB. This was all within 2 years of the last fully insured year with the last insurer.
I dont care if Quinn is 50% less than the next cheapest option but I will never have anything to do with that company again.

quinn are good as long as you don't need any claim of them.. my bro had terrible experience with them.

but they're the only ones to insure my car so i have to go with them.. only called them once since policy started to change the direct debit date and they took care of it grand.

they are the Lidl of car insurance, cheap and nasty, you can hardly complain

how do you think they are cheap in the first place?

This does appear to be the general consensus. That said, I can't see how the OP thought they were going to use the same NCB on two vehicles simultaneously.

Ive never been with them but I was surprised when a family member had a claim off them, they were very much on the ball, assessor was quick to call out and cheque was issued within about 10 days of accident. It was a straight forward claim though. I hear alot of stories relating to where there is another car involve in the claim and it getting very awkward due to quinn stalling.

I've been with QD about 4yrs, both private and commercially. I have to say, I often wonder where all the bad stories come from. I want cheap insurance, I don't want my insurer making me a cup of tea or ringing to see how I'm doing.

Car Insurance is a necessary evil, I want to pay as little as I have to and dont want to hear from them for the rest of the year. Oh, and as for the claims thing, I was involved in a crash (other drivers fault) that was sorted in about 5 days. I also had to claim for fire after an arson attack, that was sorted in around 2 weeks and the Quinn guy did all the dealing with the Gardai etc.

So, minor gripes aside, if they keep offering cheaper insurance then suffice to say I wont be changing insurers anytime soon. Every year I ring around, every year I wonder why I waste my time. In this day and age, money talks, kids.

Because paying more than the market value of the car is a joke!

Been with QD for 3 years straight, and on and off before that. The one claim I had was handled very professionally, and when it came to renewal they were way cheaper than the next (€316 vs €367, iirc). I would like to stay with them, and will as long as they are competitive.

However if they were simply the best insurance company for everyone then they'd have the market to themselves.

I don't see the relevance of the market value of the car? The bulk of the premium is for third party insurance.
