You kind of have to suck it up when it comes to Xenon bulbs. I don't think Xenon lamps are worth having on a car to be honest, only hassle and money when they go wrong or blow a bulb for only a small increase in the amount of visibility.

You should be able to get a pair on Ebay UK for a decent price including shipping - very easy convenient and cheap as long as you know how to buy.

@ Biro, i wouldnt agree that xenons aren't worthwhile. They give a decent increase in visibility and they look pretty snazzy ... also a quick way of identifying superior model cars on the road :D

    Ebay - $25 for 2 - nuff said.

Yeah just make sure they are actually D2S, not Xenon effect halogen bulbs (H1, H4, H7 etc).

Also, from experience, you're better off buying from UK than USA

I have them and I would avoid if possible on my next purchase.
    @cancan - there isn't a hope in hell you can get 2 for $25 on e-bay.

Out of curiosity, what car do you have?

I have Xenons and notice that they are a massive improvement over my earlier cars and in complete contrast to you I would be making sure I had them on my next car. Have yet to have a bulb blow yet either. (Touch wood)

I actually have an Omega myself as well.

Try http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk. One bulb is £68.

Price sound right TBH. We import them here, the phillips range and the retail around €150 plus vat.

The reason they are so expensive is because they are not a simple bulb. They are not a bulb at all as such. A full unit has to be replaced.

I'll probably get this wrong, but my understanding is that it's a gas (excited/charged?) that produces the light rather than a metal filament.

Would agree about the illumination. The xenon dims on my car would be easily as good as the main beams on some of my previous cars. The down side of this is that some oncoming cars think I already have my main beams on and flash. THEN I put on the main beams and that clarifies matters pretty quickly. :D

Rang another opel main dealer and he wanted €230 for one but as he had one in stock he would give me 100 euro off ! He did confirm that all opel omegas has D2S bulbs only. Reassured by this I did some more googling and end result was I ordered 2 x Ds2's for €65 euro for the pair from the uk. My mechanic advised me to get 2 if I could as you could end up with one brighter than the other !

you getting mixed up with improper aligned headlights or xenon conversions into halogen head lights.

D2S Xenon bulbs are the OEM bulbs that car makers use in their OEM Xenon Systems.

I got two on eBay for my Audi for around €90 shipped from Germany. They were the Phillips 4,300k as fitted OEM.

There are cheaper ones available, but I went OEM. It's best to replace both together or you'll notice that the newer one will be brighter as xenon bulbs loose their brightness over time - they say useful life is 3-4k hours.

Are you sure it's the bulb? Could also be a ballast. May be worth switching the bulbs to make sure you actually have a bulb problem.

The Omega projector HID lamps are excellent. Possibly the best headlamps I've seen in any car.

Job sorted ! I ended up changing the bulbs myself ! Took me just over an hour to disconnect battery , Remove headlamps and replace bulbs . Total cost €65 versus a quoted price of €607 from a main Opel dealer !

I felt like going beserk with a service rep in Opel who was speaking to a mechanic saying how dangerous it was and how you woiuld have to disconnect the battery and let the " thing " wind down etc and it would take an hour to an and a half and a half just for one light !

    @ !

    dak,
Was just wondering were you purchased the Xenon D2S Bulbs.

I have a Vectra CDX and the Xenon's came as standard. My first bulb blew this week in the bad weather and went down to the Autoparts place today to get a replacement. I told the guy what I had and he gave me a pair of H7 bulbs. Me not knowing any better bought them and came home to fit them only to find out that they are nothing like the ones you need. The reason I didn't check before I went is that I had heard these can be a pain to get out of the housing and they were right.

Anyway got the offending bulb out only to find out that it is a 3dw D2S 4300k bulb from Philips. I have checked a few places and found a few sites with them:

    http://www.convert2xenon.co.uk/xenon-hid-bulbs/70-d2s-hid-xenon-replacement-bulbs-all-colors.html - going for £19.99 a bulb!

    http://www.xenonsupplies.com/product_view.php?product_id=1 - going for £42 per bulb

    http://www.carbulbsdirect.com/product_detail.asp?prod=12 - going for £44.99 per bulb

    http://www.hidorigin.com/philips-4300k-d2s.html - going for £30.99 per bulb

http://cgi.ebay.ie/Hid-Xenon-2x-D2S-Bulbs-Adapter-4300K-Pure-White-/320511531536?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4a9ff9da10 - going for €44.99 for 2 bulbs and adaptors in Ireland!!

Guess I will use ebay then! :D

Hope this post is useful to other people in the same position!

Well they arrived... very quick service from the eBay seller. Simple to install, but remember to remove the fuses for your lights first for safety. I bought the 6000k version, same price and a simple replacement. Overall not an unpleasant experience changing these.
