something like this would do for HDMI.

as Tony said only the old Thompson boxes have component output as well as hdmi.

Ya i have the thompson, do you think that system would work with sky hd.

Might only be designed for american hdtv?

it will work. (its an English company, CyberSelect Ltd 4 Upper Goat Lane Norwich NR2 1EW)

it is designed to transfer signals (Any source)via hdmi to cat5 and back to hdmi.

    Hi John,
I was talking about the component one i linked in my first post.

I just noticed there's no cat5 connection on these boxes that i can see, don't fancy having to solder cables onto it.

    It says
"Our Component Video + Digital Audio, Composite Video + Analog Audio and IR Repeater system allows you to use a double Category 5e/6 cable to send HDTV + Digital Audio up to 330 ft.
It used in pairs and supports 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p video formats for hi-definition (HDTV) video applications."

What is double Category 5e/6 cable?

Would it be difficult to wire up?

double cat 5 is just 2 runs of cable 16 pairs.

cat 5 on one end and hdmi on the other end. the pic shows one of each.

No was talking about the component one i linked above.

How would the cat5 connect to them?

No was talking about the component one i linked above.

Well the first question to ask is, does your Sky HD box have component out?

Must Sky HD box made in the last 2 years don't have component out and therefore it is irrelevant and you will need to use something like the balun that John mac pointed out.

BTW I think there are some HDMI balun's that only need one CAT5e cable.

Also I recently so an interesting new device that does HDMI over IP.

from reading the instructions on that page looks like they just push onto the back of the box (like making up a cat5 boot)

If i go with the hdmi one, why are there two cat5 connections on each balun cat5-1 and cat5-2?

You only need one cat5 cable with these right?

just re read your first post..

you will need to split the signal to get it to the other tv. with one of these first.

how far is the second tv from the hd box?

With some of these Baluns you need two separate Cat5 cables to make them work. One carries the HDMI signal, the other carries the IR signal back to the Sky box.

I believe there are newer ones now that only need one cat5 cable.

BTW you need a dedicated cat5 cable to do that, you can't use the cat5 cable for other ethernet traffic.

    Hi John,
Might go with the hdmi extender as you suggested in case the thompson box fails some day.

Was thinking of buying this hdmi extender
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet%C2%AE-Extender-Cat5e-network-SHIPPING/dp/B002ECYEYA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1253144399&sr=8-1

    and this hdmi splitter
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet%C2%AE-SPLITTER-Amplifier-Display-SHIPPING/dp/B001D9P1OW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1253144879&sr=1-4

    What do you think?

    Hi bk,
Ya the ones i linked above appears to need two cat5 cables and i don't think it carries the ir signal back

Could i use the sky magic eye
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MAGIC-EYE-GLOBAL-TV-LINK-FOR-SKY-SKY-SKYHD-REMOTE_W0QQitemZ170376049771QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioTVElectronics_Video_RemoteControls?hash=item27ab34346b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Does that plug into the coax connection in the wall and send the signal back though the coax connection in the other room?
