    Hi Folks

Anyone got any opinion on the Panasonic Lumix G1? I'm going away travelling for a year and would like to get my first descent DSLR. The lighter weight and smaller size drew me to this one as well as a fairly descent review from DPreview http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicdmcg1/

Just wondering what people thought of this camera?

    Cheers

    Hi there,

First off the G1 is not a DSLR as there is no reflex mirror.

However, I think the G1 is a great camera, big bright electronic viewfinder, decent focus tracking, fast AF, the twist and swivel screen and the system is growing with a couple of nice primes, a good wide angle zoom and a leica designed macro lens to come.

thanks on reading the forum i didnt realise there was a new version coming out very soon - the GF1. Seems very very small which is good from my point of view but wonder what it will actually be like when people get a chance to use it.

I think there are very limited lenses available for it, and for the price you could probably buy into a better system. Olympus for example are small slr's with excellent range of lenses, as are some of the Nikon range maybe not so small but certainly light and easy to use.

Just something to think about long term.
