Using existing cable?

Hi guys didn't wanna start a new thread and figured it might help other people if I ask here. I live rural and have a basic roof aerial picking up the eight or so stations (rte, net2, bbc1, bbc2, c4, tnag, utv etc..)

Recently bought a free-to-air sat4free type system that includes box dish, cabling sat finder etc..

Only real tv in use in the house is the one in the main living room. I was wondering if I could use the items in the picture attached to allow me to feed the sateillte signal down into the living room without having to chase walls etc? ie. set up dish and get sat cable from dish to the same point in attic where aerial feeds in and use this method?
Also, the regular aerial signal is boosted and split to three other rooms already, now I have no interest in getting sat in any other room, just the living room, but will the booster & splitting of the current aerial signal effect the way in which I wanna go about setting up the sat and still leaving the regualr signal in place?

    Thanks Guys

    GrumPy

(the device on the left would take the aerial and sat in attic, and the output would go down the already in place cabling to the living room, where the aerial point would be replaced by the item on the right! <minus the usage of the DAB> )

I have that setup in my place, once the wallplate indeed is a one input 2 output as some as 2 input. Regarding your booster, theres no problem once the booster is all done in the attic and the output goes straight to TV downstairs i.e. after all theboosting (I might be wrong, but don't think you can send power up to your booster with the splitters in place if its in your sitting room.. Also your wires need to be new enough ie. not 40 year old brown cable. Good Luck.

Thanks man. The house is 6 years old so the cabling is fine! The free to air is working fine, just have a temp cable running in from a window atm. gonna try if the junk in my attached picture will work now! :D

cool, hope it works! Just make sure you connect the correct cable in the attic i.e. satellite to the sat input!

I assume the sat feed should go into the converter box input thats of much higher frequency?

Splitting this out of the FAQ, as not really suitable for the FAQ and more likely to be seen and responded to as it's own thread.

Right, have sat proper wired into attic. Tested sat box via scart to tv, then removed sat cable, add converter for rf and connected to tv and I can pick up the regular stations this way fine. :)
There is a loss of quality unfortunately over the regular terrestrial signal, but the sat box will be used most of the time now, rte/rte2/tv3 can lose a bit of quality without annoying me too much!

Hmmm.... Everything was working fine, decided to delete a few doubles my box picked up, and noticed the one channel four I had left wasnt working, so rescanned = still no signal for channel four.
So deleted entire list, and rescanned from scratch. My box picks up maybe 5 or 6 channel fours... None of which are working, but e4, more4, channel 4+1 and the other 2 hudred odd stations are fine?

look up flysat.com and search for astra2, then use the codes and add the tp to your box to search, may not be in your box

But it was working fine earlier? I will give it a go tomorrow anyway!

    Cheers

Well I didn't fiddle with the dish, but I brought the box upstairs and connected to the aerial point in my room and channel 4 worked again! Downstairs 10714 freq stations wont work? (channel 4, e4, more 4) channel 4 +1 and all the other crap works.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Cheers!

Have you got a cordless phone beside the sat receiver. This can sometimes interfere on certain transponders.Found this myself when I used a diplexer and wallplate recently to use a spare line on quad lnb to bring freesat to another room.

OK, I got i working downstairs, but a the loss of the terrestrial signal to the tv's upstairs.

From the combiner that allows one cable to carry tr & sat signals straight to the tv point downstairs. Removing the splitter than shares the signl to the other tv's. How can I keep it working downstairs, and still split the signal? the splitter in the attic is clearly the problem.
