Rent Allowance

    ok im looking for some information. me and my girlfriend are both on jsb(job seekers benefit) we both live in over crowded houses and are both 21 and wish to move out , my house has 8 people living in it 7 adults one child. 3 bed house
    my girlfriend has 8 adults living in 3 bed house .

    what steps do we need to take to try get our own place with rent allowance?

    AFAIK You have to be renting in your house for 6 months before you can claim rent allowence for it.

    Apply to the county council to go on the housing list. If they deem you in need of housing you can apply for rent allowance.

    Things might have changed but AFAIK you have to be on the council housing list before you get rent allowance anyway. Not that anyone actually checks (again afaik) but the couple of times I claimed rent allowance I was told I had to be on the council housing list (which I already was).

    ok so how would it work if i was to go on the housing list and get rent allowance but my girlfriend works in a part time job and gets jsb so she wont get rent allowance . how would we go about me getting rent allowance and her renting the same place without rent allowance
