That would be an Asian one, probably Korean or Chinese.

I think the guitar experts were mostly scared away by the caps-lock abuse...

Hamer aren't a bad guitar company, but then again neither is encore if you haven't come across one of their lemons yet.

Just about any guitar can play blues/light-rock as long as you stay out of jackson/dean country. My advice is to go to a guitar store and actually try out some guitars. Look at strats, Les Pauls, telecasters, SGs, ES335s etc. If you're into blues/rock then the old standards are what you should start with.

Dont worry about brand names. We could give you a hundred reasons why you should buy a hamer, but they really wont matter if you buy one without trying it first, and find one good reason not to. Best advice: Try out some guitars and find one you like the sound/feel of.

Have a look on Adverts, there is plenty of stuff that might fit the bill.

I've seen 5 Star reviews of the USA stuff - it's very highly regarded.

At €300 though you're going to be buying an asian model which will bear little resemblance to a USA model other than shape and pick up configuration.

If you want reviews of a specific guitar, you'll probably find it here.

It's been said before though, go and play it - if you like it, buy it!

You should be able to get a second hand Mex Fender for €300 without too much trouble.

I dunno if I'd be comparing a Hamer to a Strat - I thought Hamers were more like PRS/SG style guitars - mahogony, set neck, humbuckers.

Who's your favorite guitarist OP? Who do you like the sound of?

A big thanks to everybody for all the help and advice about hamer guitars...I have just found out its an asian model so you were right, comes with a gigbag also and its 20.00 sterling to ship it,its also lefthanded as i am a lefty so does, ent sound a bad price in the end and i like the look of it..........As for what guitar player do i like,i like lots but eric clapton is probably my favourite............Thanks again guys.................:)

The off shore Hamers have a decent rep bcun, but as stated they're not going to be anything like a USA Hamer apart from the looks and the name on the headstock. Thats not to say they're bad guitars, many of the bigger brands do this and often many of those guitars will be from the same third party builder such as Cort. You'll have a decent guitar on par with the likes of the PRS SE range.

As for the USA stuff they are one of the hidden gems of the industry, absolutely fabulous guitars (ok I own one so I'm a bit biased!). At this stage I've owned and sold some damn nice guitars but I think I'd have to put the Hamer up there as my favourite.

Anyway, enjoy your new guitar and don't forget to post some pics when it arrives!

if your after a hammer guitar i think they had some hammer in musicmaker in dublin. Or even for 300 quid you should check adverts for a epiphone flying v or explorer. At least that way you could try it out before buying which you cant do on line :(
