Electronic Windows - Skoda Octavia

I have an '05 Octavia. On several occasions I've locked the car, making sure all windows are closed etc., only to come back some time later to find one or all of the electronic windows either partially or fully open.

I can't find any reference to this in the user manual - has anybody had the same problem or can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks.

However when all four windows are dropping it is a software issue. The reason for this is actually rather funny. The computer that controls the comfort feautures of the car is called the CCM computer. This computer and the software is German. However the part that controls the windows i.e the motor is American.

There is therfore a conflict between the two parts as the German software battles to control the American part. Although an error code is thrown up on VAG COM the CCM computer does not recognise that the windows are down and therefore does not recognise an intrusion and does not set the alarm off.

The solution is pretty simple. Irrespective of warranty the car should be taken to a dealer asap as the CMM computer also controls central locking and even power steering and is therefore meant to be fixed for free either way. The fix should take approximately 2 hours. They plug the car in and install an updated version of the software. This uprated version of the software also disables the auto opening function that is offered when you push the lock or unlock button on the remote and hold it. To enable it simple access the option through the highline conputer and enable it.

Alternatively... The issue could be related to the door sills. VW offers a child protection which as you know stops the windows when it finds and intrusion or object in the way. It is possible that the sills and seals have swollen and the window is picking this up. To test this simply place either your hand or a tennis ball in the windows while winding it up and check that the window does stop and go down. If the window does not stop then the software is also at fault and a reflash is needed.

If the window does drop then using a blunt knife or screwdriver (I suggest putting a cloth over it) simply slip the tip in between the door seals and pry them apart slightly. This should alleviate the problem.

Hopefully that helps as it seems that not many solutions have been found. According to VW Technical all vehicles listed from the end of 2006 and onwards have the new software.
Hop this helps, Octavia is based on Golf.

Thanks a million for that - I'll contact the dealers and see what they say.

Are you sure you're not sitting on your keys or carrying them in a tight jeans pocket ?

It's a feature on many cars that you can open or close the windows remotely using the fob.

you could be inadvertently pressing and holding the lock/unlock buttons

I don't think so - I avoid tight jeans :D But I have tried the fob while standing near the car to try and work out a combination which would open the windows - haven't been successful yet, so I don't think it's that.

I cannot keep my Audi key in my pocket at all as I was managing to open windows/boot etc while sitting in house. Press & hold unlock button to wind down windows, lock button to close windows

As yer man Victor Meldrew off the telly used to say, "I don't believe it!".

I've tried the key fob again based on all of your replies, and that's the reason my windows have been opening/closing mysteriously by themselves! Thanks to all. Will just have to keep keys out of pockets or anywhere they could be pressed inadvertently. Thanks to all.
