i have already mentioned this on another forum. basically my son's car passed the NCT in Limerick last week. 2 days later maybe (100-120 miles) he got a puncture, while changing the wheel he found a badly worn ball joint in the steering.
IMO,, NCT = waste of time +MONEY

The NCT isn't designed to check every single part of the car.

The ball joint may be very badly worn, but may not have been directly impacting on the performance of the car at the time when it was tested at the NCT centre.

Surely the car is serviced regularly (especially before the NCT), and your mechanic should have found that fault??

The NCT do check all the ball joints though and it should fail on a very badly worn one.
If what the OP says is correct then that is absolutely disgraceful.
