The passenger window of my VW Passat ahs stopped working. The window is free to move up and down but it isn't working at all with the electric. It justs makes a nasty grinding sound when ever the up/down button is pressed. Would I be correct in saying I need one of these: http://www.micksgarage.ie/Drivers-Side-Window-regulator-Passat-2001-2005-168445 I already have the trim panel off but not the inner panel (metal one) as I still need the car. Would that be the correct part ??

as far as i know, the regulator is a very comon part to go in the passats. If the motor is fine, you should be right with a new regulator.
Edit: the one in the link is a drivers side one, not a passanger side....

yeah, the cable has snapped in the regulator. They're not too difficult to replace.
Costs about €110 from the main dealer.

God damn regulator problem. Had 2 with a passat and the same with a cordoba years ago. Crappy VW parts.

Regulator arrived from micksgarage.ie not a bad service considering I ordered it yesterday at around 3pm. Hopefully I'll get around to fitting it this evening.

Got the job done this evening, the regulator from micksgarage.ie is a bolt on one so you have to remove the original by drilling the rivets out with an 8mm bit.
