Last time I was in, the coffee in Darwin's was better than 95% of the places in Dublin. I don't know what the story is, I did notice passing yesterday that the signage was all down, thought perhaps they could be just doing the place up.

Have to agree with reactor on the cost thing. I'd happily pay 3 euro for a coffee that's not p*sswater like you get nearly everywhere except your own home these days.

it's believing it's re-opening on Thursday as Milk & Honey... don't know exactly what the pitch is.

It's colsed for good, its been taken over by the Landlords daughter. Milk+Honey is the new name, its a different cafe, but most of staff have been kept on, still using same coffee, so no real change on the coffee front, not yet anyways, i'm sure its all a work in progress.

Darwins did a decent job, regardless of price. And i'm sure Milk+Honey shall do so too.
    Good luck to both parties.

I've lived on that corner for years now and it's funny how it's changed.

About 5 years ago the Costcutters was a sometimes open furniture shop, with the Milk+Honey space used as a storage area.

The only cafe in the area was the horrible Crooked Wall cafe across the street. They did €5 breakfasts which tasted of nothing, and the coffee was horrendous.

A few years ago "Snax in the City" opened across from Capitol Bar, followed by the now closed Metro or Taste or something a few doors up from Milk+Honey. Then the Bald Barista arrived, followed by Brioche, followed by Cafe Darwins, and finally the new cafe where the Crooked Wall used to be.

So I've gone from having the choice of pissy Crooked coffee to 4 or 5 quality cafes.
