I have a couple of old PCs laying around and I was thinking of building a linux based setup. Can anyone recommend any SatCard (PCI or PCIe) and Readers that might read Sky cards and are known to run in Linux?

afaik none can read sky cards.

sky use a closed encryption platform . so only sky boxes can decode the programs.

i'm not to familiar with what you are asking about, but afaik there are CAM's that can be put into the likes of a Dream Box that can read a Sky card.
ie. Dragon Cam , T-Rex etc

I've looked on other forum's and they are saying that they will work with the Current Blue Sky cards, but that with the new White Sky Cards the cam's wont work.

I'm sure someone will find a work-around for this problem in the near future.

    Hope that helps

Up until recently, there were two ways to get the Sky channels on a PC. As pa990 mentioned, a Dragon/T-rex cam in conjunction with a PCI DVB-S card which supported CI (common interface) would allow you to access Videoguard encrypted channels. However, with the newly updated Videoguard encryption (blue cards CAID:0960/0961-> white cards CAID:0963), these 3rd party cams are no longer working.

There is softcam software available for Windows using a phoenix smartmouse, but because the new cards are a bit thin on the ground yet, I don't think anyone has had the chance to test them.

The linux based receivers (e.g. dreambox, azbox) etc can read the newer cards, so potentially whatever softcams run on them could be run on a Linux PC.
