Hey all, as many of you know I'm sure, our beloved lolly22 is not long for Ireland, as she is destined for Spain. So we must give lolly a proper send off, and we are looking at the 9th or 10th of October. So this is the thread for discussing lolly's departure, and a true end of an era!

Well I don't want her to go... but if she must leave then it's our duty to send her off in style. I'm pretty sure either day is good for me, but which is best for Lolly? :P Any ideas for a venue?

I didn't get a definitive day from herself, but this seems to be the most plausible weekend for her. No ideas on a venue, unfortunately it took all my persuasion skills just to get her to agree to this beers as it is. :o

Well sublounge seems to be a popular choice lately but we will be there two weeks later for the Halloween beers... There's the usual haunts of Dorans, Pravda, etc.? I think wherever we pick should first and foremost be somewhere Lolly wants.

Totally agree on both counts. Sublounge may be overkill, but it is totally up to Lolly. And shame on ya for once again looking on LZ with dirty eyes. :p

I would sincerely hope that the lovely Lolly won't abandon us entirely to her Spanish ways - after all, these are the people who do the most sensible thing possible when there's too much sun: go for a sleep!

I was under the impression that Dorans has closed down.

I havn't been there is about a month but did not hear anything about it closing down.

    Voodoo is closed down though.

    Edit:

Look like I spoke to soon:
    http://www.hotpress.com/Eamonn%20Dorans/news/Dorans%20hope%20to%20reopen%20this%20week/5762491.html

Dorans hope to reopen this week

Famous Dublin pub and venue "dealing with licensing issues" Rumours that Eammon Doran's, one of Dublin's best-known rock'n'roll venues, had closed over the weekend were clarified by owner Dermot Doran, who spoke to Hot Press this morning. While the doors of the venue have been shut since Friday, Doran explained that the problem was a temporary one. The premises was experiencing "licence trouble", he said, but they were in the process of rectifying the problem.
"We hope to open again later in the week, all going according to plan," Dermot told Hot Press. "We are behind with taxes, and you need a tax clearance certificate to have your license renewed, but I'm hoping to sort things out over the next couple of days. Technically I could trade at the moment but it's better to take this route for the moment. It has nothing to do with any issue other than license trouble."
Eammon Doran's has been one of Dublin's most celebrated venues for many years, with a constant flow of bands playing the downstairs venue in Temple Bar, since Doran took over. The venue and pub has a reputation as a place where young Dublin bands often got their first gigs. Its roll of 'past pupils' includes Radiohead, who played their first ever Irish show there in 1993.

Well I think once you know what Lolly wants then the poll should go up. Also, my mistake. I knew Dorans was closed but had a temporary memory lapse last night. I was very very tired when posting. :P

Well I have spoken to the lovely Lolly and she says she shall post her decisions/ideas later. For now I hope she doesn't mind me speaking for her but she said Friday would probably suit best and that somewhere with a bit of dancing but also somwehere where you can have a chat. So get your thinking hat on there LZ.

somewhere with a bit of dancing but also somwehere where you can have a chat..

that sounds like Q bar to me, upstairs is quiet-ish with room to sit and chat, and downstairs is a proper dance floor for all your dancing ways!

Qbar is pricey though. And upstairs is usually pretty full so someone would need to get there super early.

Might not be a bad idea. It's central and cheap.

I have to say I'd prefer somewhere else. The only time I ever went there it was full of drunk 15 year olds wearing belts for skirts, gyrating their skinny twiglet arms around on the dance floor.

I think girls with belts for skirts is in fact required viewing while on a stag, so that would have been acceptable at the time. ;)

I know...the absolute lowest common denominator "venues" in Dublin:(

Most other places would be better than whose, hell even Pravda is a better spot lol

On another note: the one beers i could have met lolly i didnt somehow and would at least like the chance to...hopefully i'll be in Dublin that weekend as there's the chance i might be in Tralee...

Well I mean both are fine, but Q Bar's fairly expensive and can be a bit rough every now and then. (Depends how desperate they are when it comes to letting people in. I've had good nigths there too.)

Citibar's a bit of a creche afaik. Haven't been in a good while.

Qbar isn't a good venue in my opinion. Citibar isn't much better but it is at least better. I like the suggestion of capitol. Or we could always go with the sublounge again because we know lolly likes it. There's also pravda, karma or the woolshed.

Sorry this is so late, work was a little crazy lastnight to post.

    So firstly .....thanks Lz :)

Ok so with the date's i gave the weekend of the 10th of October cause thats my last weekend where im free before i go but if there is a weekend between now and then that is better for people then, im cool with that.

Venue's- well sadly im pretty much like Lz where my knowledge on good Dubin city venue's at night is just, well, not great!!

Im not really into the dancing thing, but i suggested we should go somewhere that there was an area for dancing cause i know there's plenty of noc ladies that like to boogie :p

I enjoyed the night of last beers in sub lounge (they like our kind ) but all that being said, there are people here like Fc that know there venues better and ill be happy where ever we go :)

Well whatever makes you happy missy. We just want to send you off in style. By which I mean kidnap you and mini lolly the night of the beers and refuse to let you leave. :P

If you don't mind about dancing then I'm sure it can take a back seat for now. I'm sure the ladies won't mind if there's nowhere to boogie. Also, I'm pretty sure Trowelled can boogie anywhere so I'm not sure she actually needs a dancefloor... :P

So far the venues that have been suggested are:

Qbar - pricey, can get really packed & loud. Fussy about who they let in sometimes.

Citibar - apparently a younger crowd and not quite open to our kind of clientele, but central and cheap.

    Capitol
    - cheap cocktails, dancefloor, room to sit and chat, is it over 21s though? And again, are they fussy about who they let in? Could be a good venue though.

Sublounge - Lolly-approved! Room for all, dancefloor, places to chat, etc. We'll all be there two weeks later for the Halloween Beers but if people don't mind then this could be a good venue. Will let "our type" in.

Pravda - Difficult to find room for a large group and if there's a band playing can be ridiculously loud thus eliminating any chance of conversation. Will let "our type" in.

Woolshed - Cheap Cocktails & karoake if we go on the Friday. Cheap pitchers of beer all the time. Room for people to sit and chat. Can be loud if there's a match on but if not then it's always a great place to go. No dancefloor though. Will let "our type" in.

Karma - €3 drinks all the time. Room to sit and chat. No dancefloor. Will let "our type" in.

if capitol is 21's i think we should veto it coz thats not very fair on some of the "younger" nocs.

what about messrs? (sorry it wouldnt be a "where to go" beers thread if i didnt suggest messrs :p )

i like the woolshed but come on....karaoke night? please dont do that to us!

either way im gonna be late if its on the 9th coz im goin to a gig in the academy, but ill be there after!

Messrs, T.P Smiths, the Porterhouse (i know its popular, but usually for a reason), Bull and Castle, Feile, Shine.

Most fulfill the (dance/been there before/will let us in) requirements

But anyway, she isnt going anymore. I refused her permission. So that is that.
