Another Rent allowance Question

Im on the back to education allowance. Ive never rented a place before. Do i need to rent a place for six months before I get rent allowance. ( Thats if im entilted to it). I seen in another thread that I need to be working for them six months but how can I be working if im in college. Does anyone know?
