Awesome, AWESOME show. The overall standard seems to get better every year.

Hercs had a huge showing this year...

First Timers - 1st and 2nd Aaron and Flo respectively. I don't think there's ever been a better first timer than Aaron. I've been saying it for months, but he literally blew everyone outta the water

Figure - 1st place Ali... as always she came in looking fantastic

Over 40's - JJ Dunne beaten out in to 2nd in a close battle for first. One of the most helpful and hardworking guys I've ever come across too. Delighted for him.

Mister Class 3 - Derek (aka Della) came a good 2nd in a VERY tough class. He's said himself that he'll never be the biggest, but will always come in in amazing condition, and he wasn't wrong

Mister Class 2 - The ccontentious one.... I don't like pinning my colours to the mast on open forums cos it causes trouble, but I'll make an exception. Frank was robbed. He may not have been in good enough to condition to come in 1st, but to be placed last in the class was an absolute travesty. Admittedly I didn't see what he was like in the pre-judging this morning, but he certainly had the most muscle out of any competitor today, by quite some margin too. Anyone who was there will probably agree with me. He's only young (a year or two older than me) and once his legs, which are not small by any means, come up to the level of his upper body, and he dials in conditioning a bit more, no one will touch him. He's a VERY bright future in the sport.

The junior's were a really high standard again this year too.

I called 8 out of the 9 class winners (:p) and I personally think the overall went to the right guy too.

The tribute and induction to the hall of fame for Ivan Dunbar was very special. He was a great man and would seem to be sorely missed by Irish and International bodybuilding.

And it was frickin amazing seeing Mick Stewart on stage again. The guy's an absolute inspiration.

I do indeed, very big fella. From what I saw of him the day before the show, I was expecting him to do quite well on the day.I'm quite disappointed for him considering the progress he's made between this time last year and now.

From what i heard I think Ralf Brzoska came 1st overall with Cathal Tiernan and Dave Geller coming 2nd & 3rd. Nearly sure its Ralf anyways, my mate said a big mad polish dude won it! Great for Galway City Gym getting 2nd & 3rd.
Both 1st and 2nd competing in Mr. Universe and Geller has already qualified for the europeans thru RIBBF of last year.

Haha it was always going to go down like that to be honest. You just can't comprehend not only how hard he trains, but how disciplined he is with his diet - everyone raves about him like. No idea if he's doing the RIBBF's or not. I remember when I first joined Hercs almost 4 years ago now, everyone was telling me about this absolute monster, and he's only gotten bigger and better since then. His legs have come on an unbelievable amount in the last year.

Aaron, Flo and Frank are in a pretty good place to take Irish bodybuilding by the balls over the next couple of years if this show was any indication!!

It's a same he couldn't go in for the overall... I reckon he'd have had a shot.

And you're right, the class 1 winner, Ralf won the overall. It was close between him and the class 2 winner imo, but Ralf was probably better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭d-gal

Ya the guys said Cathal was close, he has amazing arms and shoulders just his legs have let him down in the past but he is improving every year. Hope your making it down to the RIBBF, should be another class show, they usually go for symmetry rather than complete size so should throw out a few different calls. I am up helping one of the lads out for it so hopefully we will bring back a trophy to Galway with us ;)

What you think of the juniors? Just saw a pic of Pat Curran, amazing shape for his age

Brian Hickey got second in the overall with Cathal Tiernan 3rd. Only the top three from each class get to the overall.

Yeah that Aaron is a true freak, well done to him, his meant to be only in his 20's, anyone know what height and what weight did he compete at

Video of the first timers awards, god Hanley you were right, your two boys are seriously good shape, Aaron by far the best, no contest

    http://www.youtube.com/user/MrKevinthehulk#play/all/uploads-all/0/JAWG3rAn028

Bit disappointed with the Galway lad, he came 7th & deserved better by the looks of it, the big bald guy on the left handside (last guy to get one of them medals)

Aaron would be in his early thirties now.

I worked & trained with him back in 2000, went to the Middle East for six months and came back to find a monster in the making.

I'm out of the body building scene a few years now, so its great to hear about Aaron's progress.

But getting back to 2001 when I got home everyone was raving about him.

Aaron's been asked to compete in the Universe in 6 weeks' time, as has Ali - I know she's going, but not sure about him.

Possible, he's from Donnycarney originally and indeed was a brilliant GAA player with Craobh Chiaráin.
