Just wondering what boardsies opinion on this would be? Do you think a new Trinity Halls is in order? And if so, would Ballymun be a good spot? Personally I think it would be a great spot, provided the Metro comes into play. Ballymun has come on a lot in the past few years in terms of local amenities and facilities. And with the new student village opening this year, http://www.gatewaystudentvillage.ie/ the social life would be pretty amazing!

Sure DCU is around there and I don't think they have any problems, so yeah why not

When, honestly, do you (OP) expect the Metro to be completed? I would put some money on "never".

There have been reports of dcu students at the student accomodation being harassed by local junkies - if i find a link ill post it. Think trinity would be smarter than to put their accomodation there!!!

Considering how shambolic public transport can be (don't expect the metro any time soon imo) I think it's a bit far out and knowing a decent bit about the area I couldn't see it working. The area isn't as bad as it used to be but wouldn't recommend it myself.

A friend of mine lived in the gateway last year, took over an hour to get into college in the mornings and they had to pay the local scumbas with cigarettes as so not to break their windows, no joke!:(

    Lol.

I also heard bad reports about Gateway, albeit at the bus stop outside it instead of in Gateway itself.

I think the hour journey time is an exaggeration. It's never taken me longer than 40 minutes to get from DCU to college on the 4/as or 13/as and there's mostly bus lanes present on at least 3 of the 4 routes. Gateway is only a minute further up the bus lane (via bus naturally) from DCU.

Not a hope of trinity building something in Ballymun!

I agree that the metro is not a viable argument for putting the accommodation in Ballymun, but I do think many of the previous posts are stereotyping the area a bit. Have any of you actually lived there? I would imagine that if it's recommended for DCU, DIT and St.Pat's, it's ok for Trinity students too. An attitude like "Oh Trinity is never going to put it's students there" is a bit immature tbh. Obviously it has its problems, but nowhere within commuting distance of Trinity is perfect really.

In fairness it's not nearly as good a location as Trinity Halls. I live the same distance from Trinity on the opposite side of the city and in normal rush hour traffic the journey is at least an hour on the bus. Can be much longer in more unusual weather.

I'm sure they could find a closer location if they really tried.
