    hi all

was working in a decent job for 8 years , bought a house , and now im on a 3 day week

i know im not alone in this and lots in the same boat , but i was wondering am i entitled to anything towards my mortgage ??? since im the sole owner and reduced to a 3 day week and find it hard to make ends meet at this stage

yes i could move out and rent the whole house , but with more houses than tennants available thats a no go , plus its my home

yes i could advertise a room to rent , but as stated above its my home

ive paid tax all my life and think there should be some sort of entitlement

    any ideas ???

You can claim Jobseekers Benefit for the day's you are not working - if your working week was reduced and you have the required social insurance requirements. There is mortgage interest supplement for people who are unemployed - I dont know how this would affect you as you are employed on a three day week - but I'd contact citizen's information services to find out exactly what you are entitled to - also make an apt ASAP with the Monetary Advice Budgetary Service - they may be able to offer some good advice.

Your local community welfare officer (in the Health Board) would be able to assess your case. The mortgage interest supplement works vaguely as follows:

Say your mortgage is 1000 a month, of which 300 a month is interest. You might get an allowance towards the 300. It works a bit the way rent allowance does - you're expected to pay x euro a week towards it yourself - say €20 a week. So in that case they might award you €220 a month towards your mortgage, but they take all sorts of things into account.
