Just been told that previous work on my crappy 01 punto has resulted in the spark plugs being forced in and have propbably stripped the threads.

Searching online I see that there are thread repair kits for spark plugs - anyone here ever used them and are they any good?

Saw a set in Lidil the other day looked ok. Used a friends once before to fix a seperated spark plug (use a torque controlled wrench ;)), worked well

A SIMI garage (you know you can trust them ) fcuked up when replacing one of the spark plugs on my car which not only resulted in the threads of the plug housing being stripped, but the plug was literally blown out of the engine. In the end I got a helix coil that slotted into the plug housing and the spark plug then screwed into this and everything was ship shape after that.

Helicoils are OK ,Timeserts are a better option IMO. They are cleaner to install and give a better finish. Helicoils can give trouble after a while IME. Get a good machinist/Mechanic to do the job with plenty of grease on the Tap.

Thanks for the info. I'm in a similar boat to what Prosperous Dave experienced. About 10 days after a service a spark plug shot out like a rocket on the M50 last saturday. (I thought the engine had exploded!) First mechanic to look at said two of the spark glugs are threadded...
