Rod, Jane and Freddy from Rainbow would love these new things.

It's slightly laudable for the fact that each stripe is a separate piece of wood as oppposed to being painted on - I mean I quite like it bar the appalling pickups and electrics configuration. I mean a single tone and volume knob? You're not dropping 2-3k to play in a skiffle band

Woah, those are individual pieces of wood?. That's actually very cool!!. Probably sounds like pants, but eh!! :D.

As for the skiffle, well, if it's good enough for jimmy page!! :pac:

Not really my cup of tea to be honest but its nice to see them trying new things. It;s also not massively expensive for a Gibson....

there's a nice Limited Run Nighthawk on the way though that I may be after...

    Er... Plywood?

This is how skateboard decks are made.

I'd imagine that marketing/brand awareness is one of the main functions of these "novelty" guitars by Gibson. Considering that and the discussion they prompt, it seems like a fairly successful strategy.

Bah? Didnt Page have numerous switches, push-pull pots, out of phase, reverse polarity switches etc?

But if you look at it as brand dilution, its the least successful strategy since they muddied their name with the Faded SGs and other low quality consumertars.

Well, in terms of brand dilution this started happening long before this. The reason that the vintage market has taken off as much as it has, is that they don't make 'em like they used to (and haven't for a long time). Comparing newer guitars (particularly a lot of Gibsons) to their older counterparts, a lot of the time the body shape is about the only thing they have in common with one another. At least nobody is going to go out and buy one of these and expect it to sound like what player x used on whatever classic recording.

Any one here the rumor that was going around the LP Forums of a possible Peavy buyout of Gibson

Gibson are screwed...........everything down the drain.......

Took people for granted......and now they are screwed forever......and ever.

I don't share your sentiment at all brutha. I think they will keep going on to prosper for many decades to come....why? ....They still got that mojo vibe that's difficult to suppress. Like it or loathe it that's just the way it is. Fender and Gibson have just sooooooo much charismatic history that will never go away.

The Gibson presidents job is up for grabs on Monster.com.... not a good sign!

Apparantly Gibson go through presidents regularly. There is a thread about that position over on Reranch. To be honest I dont see them ever shutting down. There prices however may fall a little. Gibsons tend to run about twice the price of most other guitars for the same value.
