Does size matter?

    Height wise I mean.

Im 5ft 9in tall and have never dated a girl taller than me and dont know if I ever will.Thats not to say I dont find taller women attractive,I know a couple of very beautiful women that are 2,3,4 inches taller than me but Ive always had somewhat of a mental block when it comes to taller women. Most of my ex's would be between 5ft 2 and 5ft 5,give or take.I feel more manly if my OH is smaller in stature, for example if its cold outside I can open my jacket and wrap it around her to keep her warm.

So the question is for the the gents,

have/are/would you date someone taller than you?

    and for the ladies

have/are/would you date someone shorter than you?

I know some will likely say,its personality that counts and all that which is true but for me personally,I would feel awkward if I had to stand on a kerb to kiss my OH for example.

No, don't think I could date somebody smaller than me. It's the one physical attribute I would have a problem with, that and girls with short hair. Though I'm 5'11 so it's not really a problem.

I quite like tall women, not sure of taller than me though. But tbh, I haven't met too many ladies taller than me - I know quite a few around the 5'1"1 -> 6'2" mark.

    Am 6'4 myself

Height just isn't an issue for me.
My last boyfriend was a considerably slighter build than me. He was a long distance runner and a few women friends did mention that they could never date someone who made them appear/feel fat.

I'm not attracted to people often, and I'm would hate to miss out on that because of some sense of ego.

I am impressed when men acknowledge their actual height though, most seem to think they are several inches taller than they are.

I'm a bit over 6ft and my girlfriend is 5'11, when she wears heels on a night out she gets a bit taller then me and tbh I don't like it very much. All power to those that do though.

i'm a similar height and when I was younger I used to be bothered by it. now I'm not at all.

when i was about 11 or so, I had the one and only proper growth spurt of my life, and I've been this height since then. For a few years I was a fair bit taller than most, but then I kinda stayed put and others kept going.

my wife is quite a bit smaller than me, never been an issue.

as for not dating/snogging/etc:p a taller lady, well all i can say is that I was always an equal opportunities kinda bloke. Who am I to prevent some poor girl from enjoying the monkey love just because genetics have made her legs longer.

Nope wouldn't bother me TBH. I've gone out with women before who were taller than me in heels.

I would view heels as somewhat of a grey area.1 or 2 past partners would have been around my own height so in average heels they would have been taller but Im more talking about regular day to day footwear or barefooted.Like if a girl was 2 or 3 inches taller in her bare feet I dont think I could do it.
All my female friends feel the same, they wouldnt go for a bloke thats shorter than them and heels is one of the most oft quoted reasons.

I'm 6' spot on and I wouldn't like to go out with a woman taller than me. Dunno why though. My mate(Who is 5.7') went out with a girl who was 6.1' before. It just looked weird..

I don't think height is a big deal(I wouldnt pick someone over someone else if they were taller) but I do like being able to reach the cookie jar:cool:

I can't believe that you're asking this question! I'm 5'5" and have dated guys smaller than me 5'4" and 5'3". I met both of them online and they had said on their profiles that they were 5'7" and 5'6" respectively! The tallest guy I dated was a 6'5" Dutchman and he had big hair so that made him look even taller :D. I didn't meet him online.

The reason women wear heels is that we think they make us look skinnier, and ye fellas like that :p

The increase in height from heels offsets the width (which doesn't change). I dunno.

On topic, it might have made me uncomfortable in the past but not now. You can always wrap an arm around her and go "More for me!"

Well I'm 5ft2 and tbh, have never met a male, older then me, who is shorted then me so anyone I've ever dated has been taller so height is not an issue for me.

I actually love a guy who is taller then me, gives me a real sense of security.

I totally agree. Heels do not make you look skinnier. For me, they make me feel a helluva lot sexier! That there being the reason I wear heels!

I'm 5' 9'' and my girlfriend is around the same and when we are out often wears heels which can elevate her to as high as 6' 2".

    Ha really? :P

Yeah, I got a beautiful pair of black platform shoes from my sister and wore them to a party a few weeks ago with skinny jeans. They were amazingly comfortable! the guy who the party was for was none too impressed because I ended up being the exact same height as him and he was freaked out! lol.

Ah ya but what I was getting at is that I just think it looks weird to see the woman leaning over to kiss the man, hence the need for the kerb.

I've dated guts the same height as me in bare feet, but never someone shorter... It's kind of a mental block for me! Even with the same-height guys, I didn't like wearing heels when we went out. I'm 5'6 so it's not like I'm narrowing my dating field considerably!

Will second that some guys appear to be delusional about their height though. Have met a few guys who reckoned they were "5'8", but were barely my height.

Oh I *do* wear heels, I just spent half an hour organising my vast array of them, actually... I just don't like it when they make me taller than my beau. And as for being objectified... Everyone's the same height lying down. Even if I keep the heels on ;)

Thats not strictly true.I know a guy,he's only a little fella and he pulled a girl that was substantially taller than him one night.Anyway, they were doing the business and he told me he had to pull out if he wanted to kiss her as he couldnt reach. You couldnt make that up.:D

A woman being taller (or smarter) than me doesn't bother me, haven't gone out with a taller lady before though. Find short women very cute though.

I'm 6' 2", I know moonbaby doesn't believe me, think I seen her say that somewhere before, not sure haha. Will measure myself tomorrow and find out for sure :)

On the smarts thing, nothing more attractive than a woman with brains.

Teehee, that's hilstious and awful. It's only a figure of speech though! Maybe we should change it to, "everyone's the same height in reverse cowgirl"??

I like guys to be taller than me, although, that's not hard when you're 5'4 ;)

Nothing against smaller guys though - If I like a person, it's for deeper reasons than their height!

I just think there's something comforting about having a taller boyfriend / partner who look like they're able to protect you.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Dord

I've never dated someone taller than me, but it wouldn't bother me if the opportunity did arise. The only problem with being pretty tall and dating women smaller is the inevitible sore neck.... although staircases and steps are handy. :pac:

I once dated someone over a foot shorter than me, that was awkward to say the least.

All perfectly twee alternatives to that vulgar Americanism ;-)
