I do work from home & have a small business that involves animals - I have 3 other adults who also help to feed & keep the critters happy.

Dogs & cats are all rescues that were dumped on me! Some of the parrots are rescues too as are the turtles I forgot to mention & Toni the tortoise. If you have a routine the feeding & cleaning are ok.

    • Too many Apple Snails.
I'm currently on the lookout for a nice pair of young male gerbils to put in the spare 15 gallon tank I have.

They are only active at night - do you have lots of stuff for them to climb on? A nice big sponge that is always wet & try it on lots of food - some love peanut butter (good for adding salt) & salted popcorn is good too. Other than that - play with it - & if you get pinched stay VERY still till it lets go! If you move so much as a millimetre it will pinch harder - not fun!

Gosh, Faysey, that is a lot of animals, but fair play to you for taking them all on.
I have 2 (mental) Springer Spaniels, 1 Jack Russell and 3 cats - I'd love more, but hubby says enough!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 93 ✭✭Hermit07

Yeah I have the sponge, the anti chorine drops, pellet food and a house for him to hide in.

He seems to like dog food pellets. I did notice last night he was trying out for size the new shell I left in for him:D

I always wonder if he is warm enough???

Three dogs right now but in a former life we had tropical fish in an aquarium, goldfish in a pond (until a heron visited one morning), 2 snakes, a hermit crab, 2 pirhannas (in a tank), linnets and canaries, and 3 chipmunks. Mornings were hilarious - feed fish in aquarium and pirhannas, feed snakes, turn kettle on, feed chipmunks and birds, grab food for outdoor fish and throw into pond, wash hands, make coffee and put out breakfast for children and other half. The hermit crab was fed by the daughter whose pet he/she/it was.

We've one male Shih-Tzu and one cat, our four kittens all moved to their two new homes at the weekend. We're thinking about a female Shih-Tzu (with potential puppy-joy). Planning a tropical fish tank too. I'd love to get some hamsters and some terrapins but with our giddy pets I'm not sure it'd be a good plan.

I'm getting a Kerry Blue on Saturday, 5 month old female and I can't wait! Our last dog, an Irish Terrier died in May 2008 and we've only just come around to owning another dog. The death of a treasured pet is very traumatic, but I think (in hindsight) the best thing is to get straight back in again soon after. I think we waited too long but can't wait to make up for lost time.

Plus we've got hundreds of birds visiting the back garden, (I know they don't count as pets) but some are very familiar to us, amazing what a few fat balls, peanuts and Nyger seed will do to transform the place!
