UPC disconnected me!

I guess I'm just ranting here...

I came home from work this evening to find my TV (analogue and digital) and broadband were down. According to the logs in my router it's been down since 9:30 this morning. I took a quick look outside and my cable has been disconnected from the junction box outside the house! I phoned UPC who did the usual thing of "try rebooting your box" and booked me a service call for Wednesday, so I'll have to take time off work.

I think I know the story though. When a new tenant moved into one of the other flats in the house he signed up for UPC. Instead of taking a new feed from the junction box they split my cable and ran it to him instead - my cable modem's transmit power jumped from 54.0 to 56.5 dBmV as a result. He recently moved out so I'm guessing that they just unplugged the cable outside without knowing it was connected to me too. And no I won't try to reconnect it myself in case I get in the sh** for it.

So I'm without TV and broadband for nearly a week, argh!

If it's just a screw in connection, go for it. What are they going to do, disconnect you?
