I just seen something strange.I seen a plane flying very high overhead as high as jets fly Iimagine. But there was no con trail coming from it.After watching it for awhile i just seen the contrail starting and the plane made a funny turn. Do they turn off their engines or what? Never seen anything like it before.

    Contrails dont always happen!

Regarding the turn, the reflection of the sun if an aircraft turns is deceptive on the mind...

they do switch them of mid flight some times to save fuel,,, and they also let them freewheel down cloud when they appear.

Are you serious now or having a laugh? It is my first time seeing this and I've seen thousands of planes.

Um just no... Turn the engines off mid-flight and you'll be hurtling towards the ground.

To the OP, the aircraft was probably just climbing. As I'm sure you know, when the outside air temp is below a certain degree, the heat of the engines causes condensation. All you saw was the aircraft reaching a certain altitude where the temp was right for cond to occur.

I see what you mean now very good. The plane was heading west towards america or canada perhaps, but the cork airport was also west of where the plane was.So what airport could it have been coming from that it would take that long to reach that altitude?

    Anywhere in England I guess?

neil is right. All that happened is that the aircraft changed altitude and flew into conditions conducive to the formation of contrails. Contrails tend to form only in a narrow band of temperatures. It may not have been climbing all the way but simply may have changed altitude in order to improve it's ground speed. On the other hand, it may simply have flown in an area with a lower or higher temperature, thus producing contrails. Any number of reasons in fact. So no mystery at all.

Sprak, save that sort of chemtrail nonsense for the Conspiracy Theories forum. This is the Aviation and Aircraft forum where the sane people live.
