Powercity are having a sale online with 10% of all stock. I want to get a Blu-Ray player but don't know much about them. Can anyone recommend a good model from Power City?

Most Bluray players are the same.
My preference are Panasonic or Pioneer but Samsung are very reasonable money and underrated.
Just check the brands web sight to see what it lists as a current model.

I've just returned 2 Samsung BD1580's to Powercity. Both locked up after updating the latest firmware from the Samsung site, and this within a week each time of collecting the units. Have now settled on the Panasonic BD60. Both sound & video excellent. Samsung wouldn't be a favourite of mine due to previous problems, and the fact that they can release updates without fully testing them.

So is it the units are at fault or is it the firmware was badly written?
I am in the process of buying a Samsung Blu Ray player and am curious

I recently bought a Philips BDP3000 Blu Ray player from the Philips store in Dame St. for Eur 120. This weekend I borrowed the Dark Knight BD from a friend and it is just totally awesome plus if you pop a USB memory stick in the back you can save multiple bookmarks for this movie and probably others. Not all movies (even Blu Ray) seem to support bookmarks and they're not mentioned in the user manual for the BDP3000 but if you're watching the Dark Knight, you can hit the green button on the remote and the player saves the bookmark to the USB stick, killer feature or what!

Originally I was reluctant to buy the Philips BDP3000 as I couldn't find any online reviews and I was leaning towards the Sony S360 but I was won over on price and figured that as a 1st generation BD-Live player it would be easy to offload next year on adverts.ie and do an upgrade, however after watching the Dark Knight in Blu Ray I can't see myself ever bothering to upgrade.
