This morning I read the following list of golden no-no's post training:
    • binge drinking (obviously)
    • hot bath (ice bath is better)
    • deep tissue muscle massage within 24 hours ()

Why is the last one frowned upon?

As it can increase the amount of micro trauma in the muscle thus increasing doms. That said me and my gf massage each other loads after training and I haven't noticed any bad effects

agreed - a deep tissue massage might be too much but a light massage or foam rolling would be helpful always

I'd say it's probably not optimal, but I wouldn't be concerned about it myself.

Dehydration aside, for what other reasons is drinking heavily after training not recommended?

Raises estrogen levels, lowers testosterone levels, increases lactic acid buildup and recovery time I think and some other schtuff apparently reducing the opportunity for muscle growth.
It has DEFINITELY had adverse affects on my growth over the years. I'd be a hella lot bigger if I didn't drink. But you have to have fun too, I sure as hell ain't no IFBB Pro.

I'll take it that also means a hot shower? Usually go for a coldish one, but sometimes go for a nice hot shower...

If I drink say, one hour, after training, I will get drunk on a *tiny* quantity of alcohol. Some would see this as a good thing :) I believe it shows how training and drink don't mix. If you are training a few days a week, there is probably no good time to be binging on alcohol as you'll be affecting performance and/or recovery to some extent. Luckily, I don't particularly enjoy drinking. I'd rather be deadlifting.

Hot baths - I often have them after training and don't regard them as a "no-no" but if they've been proven to affect recovery then I won't argue with that.

Cool, didn't quite know that. You gotta have fun though!

Aye, coupla pints after a good bit of exertion is brilliant. It may hamper progress but it's cheap. :P
