I had a Renault 19 (1.9D) about 10 years ago and ended up putting two second hand heads and after that a second hand engine went into it...:eek:
If your 19 overheated i'd get the head pressure checked before its fitted as
tend to crack when heated......As for price ...Sorry i'm not really sure...:(
    Row.

That wont even cover taking off the timing belt and stripping it down

Sorry i was just quoting the cost for the skimming, valves & head gasket... I assumed the head was off the car and was just looking for a rough idea of the cost for getting the head sorted out...

To leave a head into a machine shop and get 2 valves supplied and fitted get the head skimmed and have a head gasket supplied should cost no more than about €120.00

Ummm they were just quoting for skimming + 2 valves + gasket?

Do they need to take the cam shaft out or something special before skimming?

You should be able to get a quote for the valves + gasket from any dealer...

I know Gala engineering in dunshauglin charge €100 for turning around the head... Then what ever the valves cost on top of that...

I recently got a head gasket done on a petrol vectra. The mechanic who done it took the head to be skimmed to a centre in Castleisland and the charge was 50 euro for getting it skimmed he told me. The again he may have got a more favourable rate as he could have being a regular customer sort thing. Don't ask me the name of the centre in Castleisland twincamman as I don't know but if it helps feel free to pm me and I will give you the number of the mechanic who did the headgasket for me. He is a pretty sound bloke and I'm sure he would pass on the number to you no probs.

As for the headgasket I bought a complete headset and timing belt kit from the through ebay.co.uk and it worked out a hell of a lot cheaper than from buying from any motor factors here. Then again if you are just after a headgasket only there may not be much in it with the package and postage.
