Did you ever notice that most of the triathlon videos you see feature ironmen with ridiculously sculpted bodies and chins doing impossible things to pompous gladiatorial backing tracks?

Well I just caught the link to the attached which is much more down to earth - far more of a "Taytos and ice cream" vibe - it’s a promo for a longer DVD recording made on a beautiful summer's day at the Sive Triathlon in Cahirciveen Co. Kerry this summer.

Instead of profit-making ironman –we see a community based event that’s way more grounded - staffed and supported by the local small town volunteers. Ordinary people with ordinary shapes and fitness giving it a real go and having a great time on a sunny day in a beautiful part of the world.

It blew me away as it shows real enjoyment in amateur sport and shows that anyone can do it - there can be room for the elite performers and the fun-participants all in the one event. Anyone would fancy giving a triathlon a go after seeing this video - a top-class job at promoting sport for all.

The celebrity team (Olympic rower Paul Griffin along with Kerry football legend Maurice Fitzgerald and current manager Jack O'Connor) also feature

Best viewed in full screen mode with sound since the backing track is essential to the message and is way happier and more appropriate than the gladiatorial stuff !

Hopefully you Dubs can interpret the accents OK… :o
