As a new user to boards, I'm thinking of buying a "refurbished" laptop from Laptops direct, looking for some advice on anyone who has bought a refurbished one. I have bought from the site before and so far so good. Just a bit nervous about "refurbished or as new" laptops.

A refurbished laptop can mean any of diferent reasons why its refurbished.
Could have been returned under the 30 day cooling off period, din't work as described and has been fixed ect ect.
Laptops direct don't have a great reputation when it comes to customer service and personally I wouldn't buy from them myself.
You would be better off buying form dell outlet but that is only my opinion.

    2 threads here about them

+1 to everything that was said above!

Your title says it's for a child. Perhaps something cheap + secondhand would do the trick? An Asus eee 701, or 901? Both technically full laptops, they're small, light, they'll take a battering without a bother. At a guess i'd say you should be able to pick one up for ~100
