What is it with Apple? First they give the iPhone a camera that can't record a video and now they give the Nano a camera that can't take a photo.

    Anyone able to explain it.

Yes actually, it's a low megapixel camera so pictures would be crap but video is decent (standard 640x480@30FPS).

Secondly, Apple wanted a better camera in the iPhone to record video (because Cycorder just wasn't that great) and the 3GS is.

And now a word from Steve Jobs himself:
The sensors for doing video are fairly thin. The sensors for doing a still camera, at much higher pixel resolution - and we'd really like to have autofocus - they are just way too thick to ever fit inside the Nano.

    From Gizmodo

EDIT: And the videos are actually impressive...

Ah so it does make some kind of sense.

Its kinda like just sticking a bit of technology onto a nano for no reason. I dont think anyone was ever thinking "man, I wish this nano could take a video. Not a photo tho, I dont need that."

In terms of the camera, Im assuming the arial is in the earphones? so, you need to use the cheap ass ipod stock earphones. Anyone know if this is true?

I was never a fan of the ipod nano earphones, quality or look.

    Do you mean radio?

personally, I'd be very surprised if the arial was in the headphones.

I seen a video somewhere and it seemed to say please insert headphones for radio. It does the same thing on my phone, but they can be any earphones they don't need to be special ones. I think they act as the antenna or something. Would imagine its the same for the nano but with apple you don't know.

That's the same with any small devices (phones etc.) - it makes sense to use them as a receiver.

I should clarify this, I ment that I'd be surprised if you needed special headphones as an arial, fair enough if any ones will work.

Cheers cpu-dude, that is surprisingly good, at least on a par with the Flip Ultra (SD). What is the internal video format it records at?

Also, the video effects, I presume that's internal to the device as well, as it is recording?

What about in device video editing or manipulation, is there anything similar to the apps on the new iPhone?

Ah yea, sorry, I meant radio. And I had assumed the aerial was in the earphone lanyard. I always thought this was the case, in the case of nokia anyways.

Will be interesting to see if you need to stick to the iphone earphones, or if any earphones will do.

You may want to read this before buying a Nano:

    http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10348853-1.html?tag=TOCmoreStories.0

The main thing to point out in the aticle is the movement of the headphone socket which may effect some docks.
