    Hey guys,

I know this has probably been asked loads of times and im sorry if it has.

My mate just moved into his new house in college, found that there used to be Chorus in the house and the box and expired card are all present.

I was wondering if this could be used to gain FTA channels?

Turning the box on it give a message something like "setup has finalised please wait a moment" its been on that for a few days.
Turning it on without a card says, "please insert a valid UPC viewing card".
I tried reseting the box, leaving it off for a bit and turning it on with no card as apposed to whipping it out whilst on.

Anyone any ideas, would he have to buy a new box and would the UPC cable even be able to be used for this purpose?
    Thanks

Chorus/NTL/UPC provide cable not satellite, the box is their property and it's theft of service to try and watch any of the cable channels (even RTE, BBC etc) for free.

Sorry i realise this is the wrong section, if someone could move it i would appreciate it.

But surely FTA channels are FTA end of, no? So if he were to buy a FTA cable box would that work on the Chours line and be legal?

There is no such thing as FTA on cable, In Ireland anyway. If you have a cable TV transmission, you must pay for it.

You're mate can install a satellite dish and FTA receiver no problems.
