    Hi,
soo I'm starting Trinity this year and I am very confused as to where I stand with Broad Curriculum / language modules.
I e-mailed Trinity but the response was not very helpful. .
Basically I want to know if I can do a BCC subject and a language or if it is one or the other?
    thanks!

What course are you doing? Most courses that require you to do a BC, you only do one subject be it a BC class or a language module.
Few courses you have to do two, they can be one of each. (i think)

I'm doing TSM, English and Irish. I got a letter about being able to do a language but when I emailed Trinity about BCC they said you couldn't do it until second year, is that the case?

The closing date for doing a language module is the 11th so I just wanted to check if I was missing out on Broad Curriculum before it was too late!!

Well, the information is on the TCD website, but maybe they don't allow you to access it till you are registered. But if you can access the stuff, the information for TSM is here:

    http://www.tcd.ie/Broad_Curriculum/cfc/tsm0910.php

Quoting what it says under English:
Senior Freshman students may substitute a Broad Curriculum cross-faculty module or a language module for a 1 term option course.

apply for cross-faculty module OR apply for language module
Quoting what it says under Modern Irish:
Senior Freshman students may substitute a Broad Curriculum cross-faculty module or a language module for IR2024 (Folklore).

apply for cross-faculty module OR apply for language module
Decoding this information: you can only take Broad Curriculum or a language module in your second year, where it is worth 5 ECTS. You won't be allowed to do both. And I am pretty sure that TSM will only allow you to take a BC or Language module to substitute for a 5 ECTS module in one of your two subjects.
