Tuition fees tax relief

I am just about to start a part-time postgraduate course for which I have to pay full fees.

I was told by someone that I can claim back up to 20% of the cost through my tax. So I got the relevant form today.

Does anyone know how this works though? Will the tax office just send me back a cheque for the amount or will they start charging me less tax on my wages?

    Thanks

I have not heard of this but hope it's true. I had to pay full fees. Can you tell me what form you got?

The correct form is an It31, and it'll cover post grad or undergrad courses. Method of relief depends on when fees were paid. You'll only get a refund if the fees were paid in a prior year. If in the current year, you'll get additional tax credits. (unless leaving work to return to college - whole other thread)

I'm sure this has been discussed at length in the Taxation thread previously (could be wrong:confused:)
