I bought a Dell Optiplex GX620 Desktop and would like an economical graphics card to soup it up a bit.

Is this compatible? Is it any good? I'm thinking movies and strategy games, no high end games.

    Any advice appreciated

Thanks. Does it fit in a low profile desktop case? Seems full sized from the pic.

Trying to play games on any low-profile machine is an exercise in frustration owing to the lack of upgradeability of those systems :o

Best card you can physically get is a low-profile 9800GT, but they're rare. LP 9600GT is a little more common. Both are unlikely to be sourced anywhere in Europe so you'll have to pray there's an eBay seller that'll ship here and doesn't charge the earth.

If you're unlucky, or don't have the money, then your last port of call is a LP HD4550. They're plentiful and cheap, but really not so good for gaming unless you still have a 1024*768 monitor. You have been warned :P

Games yes, but only mid range, nothing high end.

How about this one? It's €50, low profile and available in Ireland. I just worry that it will work, right wattage and all that.

That one comes with the LP bracket for 37 euro. The HD4550 is a pretty decent card, tests have shown it capable of Running Call of Duty 4, a relatively decent yardstick for casual gaming, at 1280x1024 maximum settings including AA.
