Buying a Laptop

Hi guys, I am buying a laptop this evening for my girlfriend. We're going with the Dell Inspirion 1545 as it is currently on offer on the Dell website. Please bear in mind money is quite tight. She will be generally using it for writing College Essays, Powerpoint Presentations etc and also surfing the net and watching DVDs.

    ----

I just have two questions I was wondering if anybody could help me with. The first is in regard to the processor. The basic processor is a Celeron one with an upgrade to a Pentium processor for 35 euro. The details of the two are below - is it worthwhile making this upgrade?

    Intel® Celeron Dual Core T3000 (1.80 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 1 MB L2 Cache)

    (+35) Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Processor T4200 (2.0GHz, 800MHz, 1MB cache)

    ----

The second question is in regard to the lcd screen on the laptop, again the first specification is the basic one and then the second specification would cost us an additional 20 euro.

    15.6" Widescreen WXGA CCFL (1366 x 768) TFT Display with TrueLife™

    (+20) 15.6" Widescreen WXGA WLED (1366 x 768) TFT Display with TrueLife™

    ----

The basic battery is a 4 cell but we are going to upgrade this to a 6 cell, I assume this is worthwhile doing? Does anybody know how long she should get out of a 6 cell battery?

    Many thanks!

Personally I don't think the CPU upgrade is worth it, the celeron is a dual core and for the uses you outlined it will be fine.
I would go for the screen upgrade though, the benefits(brighter and better power consumption) of the WLED screen is well worth the €20.
It's also worth getting the battery upgrade. 6 cell should give you roughly 3hrs of battery life...

I recommend upgrading the CPU, as the T4200 offers something the T3000 doesn't; EIST (Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology). Basically, EIST enables a CPU to reduce its speed when idle, allowing lower power consumption, which means less power drain, and for less heat to be generated.

For a demo of EIST, please see here.

I also agree with the above poster's comments on upgrading the battery and screen.
