Considering a media server setup for my PS3. I use PS3 Medai Server on my MacBook and seems to work OK. Anyone using Twonky or a medai enambled NAS?

There is a Twonky enabled NAS as well I believe. Want to be able to watch vids, pics listen to music. Id like to do HD vids.

Interested to hear what others are doing.

I use Nullriver's Medialink to connect my Mac to the PS3. Works brilliantly.

I have stream music, view or transfer photos and copy movies wirelessly to the PS3. You should check it out.

Using a WD My Book World Edition 1TB

Primarily got it to backup the PC but also use it as a media server for the PS3. Have it plugged into my wireless LAN via Ethernet and then wireless for the PS3. Works fine and I have had no issues with it.

i know media sharing can't work with nat1 wireless as the ps3 is bypassing the router. but if one were to connect the ps3 to a computer with network cable - is there any way of then streaming from the computer (wireless available on computer also) ?

I've tried a few dif media servers and the best by far is...

    PS3mediaserver http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/

It plays all media file types, it plays MKVs for bluray rips, it can play imbedded sub titles, forces DTS on optical ports, if you ahve a fast network you can force 1080p on most movies (up scailing).

IT also auto refreshes your movie/music/picture directory so you can just rop in files randomly. Oh and it also opens/browses .rar files.

Are you using this on a Mac or PC? I download it on my mac last night - but couldn't get it to connect to my PS3. Had a quick look at their forums, but no joy.

Its probably binding to the wrong network interface on your Mac. You can change it on the General Config Tab

I've got a Qnap TS109 NAS which works great*. It's got twonky which works fine for music and pictures.

    * I can't wait for Qnap to release a firmware with Twonky 5 on it. This supports FLAC which is what I definitely want. I have no experience with streaming video, it is capable, but I haven't done it. There are reports on the forums about perhaps opting for one of the Atom based Nas's to do hd playback.

I only had a quick look last night to see if I could get it working quickly.
I will check that I have downloaded the right version tonight and look at the configuration properly.
Although last night I was seeing other media servers displayed in the xmb. I have no idea where/what/who they were as there are only 2 machines connected to my router - My iMac and the ps3.

if you want to stream movies directly from your PC to the PS3 I would recommend using PS3 Media server (link above). The main dif with PSMS is it plays MKV files without decoding/transcoding them (Basically in original Blu Ray format).

    best thing to do

Weird I could never the the PS3 Media Server to recognize the PS3.
However been using Windows Media player ver 11 I think without too many issues. Some files won't play though - eg 2HD etc.

Those I just stream using TVersity to the 360 - put up with the noise and if it means I get to play the PS3 afterwards without it overheating from being on for hours then that is a plus too.

is it true that the PS3 will not link to media server when in NAT1?
If so is there an easy way of switching between NAT types.
Been trying to get media server working and thing this might be my problem.

    It's true.
This is because you are connecting directly to the ISPs WAN network when you setup the PPPoE connection on your PS3, so the PS3 never sees anything in your local network (LAN).
To switch you would need to change the network settings on the PS3 to connect to your router and not use PPPoE.
Switching between the NAT types will mean reconfiguring the network settings everytime. Most of the time the PS3 will remember the settings for each one, making it a breeze to switch - but it does require it.

Best NAT setting is NAT2 which gets you all the pluses of NAT1 for gaming, and allows local LAN access for media sharing. A bitch if your on a Netopia box though....

Is it possible or is there a guide?

    Is what possible..
    NAT2 on netopia? NO
    Switching between connections? YES
A guide for this - same guides as ever. Use the guides for setting up NAT1 (google it) to get best gaming, and normal type networking for NAT3.
You will have to manually switch each time though...
