No wonder golf shops are going out of business

Currently I am on the hunt for a new driver. I've been into a couple of large golf shops and explained what I am looking for. The first shop I was in couldn't give me a custom fitting as the guy who does the custom fitting was away for a couple of weeks. Fair enough I left my phone number and they were supposed to call me on Monday to arrange a fitting. Wednesday now and I've heard nothing. The second shop I went into wouldn't check my swing speed ball flight ect because I'm left handed and it takes 10-15 minutes to set the bay up for left handers. This shop also took my number and were supposed to call me back last Friday. I've heard nothing from them either.

    Anyone else had similar experiences??

Another reason might be the prices! Was in green18 last week and noted the price of my mizuno Mx560 driver - €277 . I got mine last month from http://www.onlinegolf.co.uk/golf-clubs/drivers/318scog/3214pog.asp for €92 delivered!!

If the bricks and mortar shops cant beat the online prices then surely they should be trying to offer the best service they possibly can!?

True, they should but they dont- in my limited experience. Left my driver in the be reshafted last year in a certain shop - 3 and a half weeks later along with many phone calls and i get it back.

Was in Pro Golf in Limerick last month trying to buy a driver. Asked the sales assistant did he have such a driver, he said no, didn't show/suggest anything else and just walked away.

Went to the Golf Department in Castletroy, and got excellent service and advice and the prices were inline with internet prices. Well worth a check!

I don't play golf but I play music, try getting a left handed accordian.
Lefties are seen as a nuisance by the rest of the world. It's no wonder the latin word for left is sinister

I remember reading another thread on here about someone getting fitted for a club and leaving a deposit, from what I remember they were still waiting for the club 3 months later!

The only explanation I can come up with is that these golf shops had it so good during the boom years that they didn't have to try and sell anything and now with the recession its becoming clear that they haven't a clue on how to make a sale!

+1 on the shop in castletroy
Everytime I've been in there i've found your man working there to be very helpful and prices are very good too. He spent about fifteen mins with me one day lookin through clubs even when I told him I wasn't buying anything that day.
If every brick and mortar shop gave as good service as he did there wouldn't be any of them going out of business.

My mate recently took up the sport and went to one of th bigger shops in dublin. He was wearing a pair of jeans and a t shirt and was ignored by the staff. As soon as some guy walks in wearing his slacks and v neck jumper his was pounced apon by the staff and spend 20 on a few balls......funny thing was my mate was ready to spend almost 1k on a set of clubs:D

He went to a smaller store and got great service were the owner was more interested in service than getting him to spend the max possible ( he spent about 500 in the end ). Halpeny golf in Drogheda were who he delt with in the end.
