Following a guy on a poker forum who is doing the above and seems to be making a nice profit by having all 3 outcomes (home win, draw and away win) in green for roughly the same amount even before kickoff. He doesn't trade after the kickoff some the result of the match doesn't matter to him.

That's an excellent skill, wish i could do it. He said he does have games where he books a loss but is doing well and making money.

    Anyone here ever try this?

Regularly, when I have the time. This is the basis of trading on betfair.
I find it easier to do on horse racing then football however. The price on the football matchs are fairly settled before kickoff. However the volatility and liquidity in the horse racing market is huge for the 15 minutes before the off.

IMO this is the only way of really making consistent money from this game. But its not easy, and requires a lot of time and practice. It's basically a job similar to trading the stock market, same principles.

This is called exchange trading and is truly the only form of 'gambling' i have ever made money from!
By factoring in a whole load of information like value bets, team line ups, news from paddocks, weather, injuries, newspaper tips - you can see where odds might shorten or head out.
If you suspect odds to shorten, you back now and lay later. Or the reverse if odds are heading out - lay firstly, then back.
Alway remember, if you can back at higher odds than you lay, you win no matter what.
And getting into the market 20 mins before kick off with football or 10 mins with the horses, you will see plenty of oppertunity to 'green up'. Also, you neednt back/lay all the horse/outcomes - concentrate on 1 only and then spread the profit across all outcomes evenly.

One very important thing - have self discipline and dont get greedy. If you can add 2-3% to your stake for every horse race today, considering you use stakes of 100 quid a pop, thats over 100 quid profit a day. I know of a guy in the UK who's being doing it for years and his average weekly turnover of bets is close to 40k with a steady profit margin of 2.5%.
    Research, research, research...
