    Hi lads and lassies,
Ive put on about half a stone over the summer and really want to shift it.
So ive decided to go on a diet.
would this be healthy for weight loss?

Breakfast-porridge made with water + half tablespoon of nutella
cup of tea with no milk, sweetener

    Lunch- cup of soup
    slice of dry bread

Dinner- piece of fish or chicken breast with veggies

    Snack- Apple
    2 Ryvitas

Then for exercise 45 mins a day of walking/running

I know the nutella and cup of soup isnt that healthy in a nutritional sense but i dont do the shopping and have to make do with what is here.

hi, the diet posted above isnt really healthy TBH .. Porridge is great so no worries there, you dont need to put nutella in it just because somebody else in the house buys nutella though! Lunch has no nutritional value at all!! - replace with salad + fish or chicken etc .. dinner and snacks are fine ... so overall not too bad apart from lunch ... if you post your current stats and weight etc it might be easier to judge ...

Is someone forcing you to put nutella in the porridge or are you making a conscious decision to put it in!!!!

As C said lunch is crap. Some meat/tuna and greens would be a whole lot healthier and give you your dose of healthy fats and fiber.

I'm assuming your lunch that everyone is calling crap is one of those packets of dried stuff that you add water to. In that case, yes it's crap, but if it was actually a cup of homemade full of goodness soup then it's great.
Personally I'd be starving on your diet and can lose weight while eating a lot more than that.

Porrige on it's own is awful, the OP (like me) obviously needs to add something to make it taste passable, haven't tried nutella personally but I'd imagine, having read the nutritional values, that it does little or no harm.

I'd replace the nutella with a little honey if you need to sweeten it, or add some fresh fruit to it.

Lunch isn't good if it's the dried soup, but if it's proper soup then it should be ok. Wholemeal bread, if it isn't already. And you could do with some protein in there too if the soup isn't protein based.

Dinner is good assuming the fish or chicken is steamed/baked with no skin or breading or whatever on the chicken. Veggies are good as long as they're cooked healthily.

    Snacks are fine.

You could do with a bit more protein in general. You could try having eggs (scrambled, boiled, poached) some mornings instead of porridge for some variety (and protein, as well as other vitamins and minerals).

    Also drink lots of water.

    Okay thanks for the replies!

Why is protein so important? I have been noticing hair loss.. would this be from a lack of protein?

I could incorporate tuna, cottage cheese what else are good to have??
Is fish a good source of protein?

Ill be upping the water intake too thank u!v

If you need to add something, berries, apple. banana, kiwi are all better than nutella.

you read the nutritional values? Then you must have a pretty strange view of decent additives for brekkie. Its mostly sugar (over 50%), cocao, nuts, and oil.

Obviously it depends on how much you add, even only 10g (could be twice this) which is about 50 cals, 5.5g sugar, 3g fat its hardly the best option

OP, think of every spoon as being over half a spoon of sugar. If you really want a chocolate flavour to oats, add cocoa.

if you only put on a half stone over the summer I think the fact that you are going to do 45 mins exercise a day will probably make a big difference on its own,,, even if you did not change your diet to much.

exercise is the best way to reduce your weight especially if you only need to lose 7lb. I hope you reach your goal.
