Alternative Non Motorway route to Dublin

    Hi there,
I'm first time provisional driver, male 29 years old (I know, but saved a lot of money over the years and I'm past the cockiness of youth), good ability on the road, confident but not speedy, don't have a flash car that would attract unwanted attention, I've done my 6 months probationary driving with lots of lessons and have applied to take my test.
I'm in a dilemma, would liked to have gotten my test sooner but the waiting list has gone out to 13 weeks in my testing center and now in a spot.
I'm collecting my girlfriend from Dublin airport on a Saturday night 11.30pm next month and won't have my test done by then.
She has a lot of bags to take down and train/bus is not viable due to the lateness of flight in.
I'm thinking of driving up, would like to avoid motorways if possible, route is Cork to Dublin Airport, she has full license for 5 years and she will act as my supervisor on the way down.
Can anyone offer a route up to Dublin airport avoiding motorways from Cork? Or should I chance the motorway?
Tried AA routemaker/with avoid motorway option but I still think it makes you take motorways...really do not want to break the law but I am caught on this one occasion!
    Any advice please, Thanks!!

If you will be caught the first time, you'll be let go, provided you have a genuine excuse for driving alone.

Here is a route according to Google Maps, with Avoid Motorways enabled
    Link

But it looks horribly long - I wouldn't fancy doing that journey

I tried to get an earlier date but the office staff are on Summer holidays at the testing center and the waiting times increased as a result. It'll be well into October when I'll be called up as they said. I would to have some notice of the test beforehand due to work schedules which doesn't offer flexibility on short notice.. :
That's the same route offered up by AA route master...it is long...but if caught I do have an excuse and I can explain the reason why and that I will have a licensed driver with me on the way down.
Would it be better to be caught and unaccompanied with my excuse than caught without plates on a motorway?? Is there Garda checkpoints on motorways other than for speeding?
    Appreciate the advice.
