    Ok every single time i go for a round its the same story.
    First 3-4 holes = total disaster
    next 4-5 holes = mixed results but still generally struggling
    Remainder of course = by this stage ive got the feel for it and usually do the back nine in 3 or 4 over so i know im capable of playing.

    My problem is 'getting into it'! Like i reckon if i went for nine holes on my own before every round my handicap would be single figures instead of 16.
    any advice. Oh and theres no driving range in my club

    I think you just answered your own question there, although tbh it's more to do with nerves than just warming up, that's why your off 16 and not 6.

    Spend 15 mins chipping your back garden...your short game needs more warm up then anything else. For the long game your body just needs to be warmed up so you are more flexible and dont hurt yourself.

    Short game will get your eye in and avoid big numbers for the first 6 holes.

    Is there any sort of practice area where you could even hit your LW full?
    Or a practice net?

    I used to have the same problem. I was convinced that if I didn't warm up properly that it would take me at least 3 holes to get the feel of things, and by that stage I could be out of the game if I've scored badly.

    I changed three things. The first is to do a complete set of warm-up stretches, very similar to what I do before I start a workout in the gym. This includes the legs, hips, shoulders, even the forearms. It can take around 5 minutes but it's well worth it.

    The second is to always hit some golf balls before the round, be it with a full swing or even just chipping. Nets are great, particularly as you can hit a driver or 3 wood, which is as full a swing as you'll use in the round.

    The final thing is, and it's already been touched on, is I got the mental side right. As I mentioned, I was convinced that it would take me 3 holes to warm up, so I decided to stop thinking that as it allowed me to play poorly for those holes. Now, I fight for every shot on the course, starting with the first. No excuses for a poor first 3 holes. It seems to have worked as I rarely have a bad opening to my rounds these days.

    Also a bad start only affects your whole round if you are mentally "weak".
    On Sat I started with a double, then a triple 3 holes later...finished 3 under nett and won the cup. Its all upstairs lads.:o

    what do you mean here Daithi?
    Nothing Burgerman I was only taking the pi##.
    How often do you play?
    If it's only once a week or less than it's hard to get into the rhythm of a round quickly, give yourself a bit of extra time before you tee it up and you don't necessarily have to have a warm up routine or hit any balls (although it does help), just look forward to playing and enjoy it.

    I think the more you practise the more consistent your round is i.e your not starting out wondering what way you will hit the ball.

    A great way to get yourself 'match fit' for golf is to play 9 or 14 holes in the evening during the week (time/daylight/weather permitting) in a fourball for a fiver. It gives you a competitive environment without having a scorecard in your hand and builds confidence

    I have the same problem , that it take me at least 3-4 holes before i'm well into the game and the swing. This for me is a stumbling block for posting a good score. :(
