    Hi all,

I have recently purchased the above Behringer mixer and have an interface to connect to laptop with cuebase etc. However, my problem is that, although the mixing desk comes complete with inbuilt pre-amps I don't get any signal when I plug in my guitar or my keyboards. i.e the lights on the left ain't lighting up, there's nothing being received.

Has anyone had a similar problem at all? And , if so, maybe you could give me some advice.

Volumes etc are not the problem as I've checked all of these, nor are the batteries in the guitar or the leads. i have RTFM'd but to no avail....

    Please help! :(

    Thanks

What is exactly missing, apart from "level set" LEDs being dark? The signal in headphone output, or at PC side in Cubase?

    A couple of easy guesses:

    - "stand by" is pressed (it says it turns off all the mic channels, I'm guessing it means channels 1-8)
    - wrong inputs (inserts instead of line)
    - your instrument cable is incorrectly wired or damaged (but you say it works)
    - the volume or gain is too low (if the gain is set too low, it will result in the channel signal light not coming up)
    - you left the mute buttons enabled (try turning mute off on everything until you get the signal, then muting everything that you can without affecting the signal) - this shouldn't affect the level LED
    - the main mix is not routed to the monitor (or recording) output - this shouldn't affect the level LED
    - wrong outputs (headphones connected to wrong socket - this obviously won't affect the level LED)
    - the mixer is fried

Disclaimer: I have their older mixer (MX1604A), so I'm not aware of any potential quirks of the newer models.

    One more:

    - your instrument is connected in mono, and the voice canceller is active (which is probably supposed to kill all the mono signal)

Cheers for the ideas mate I went through your check-list but it dont seem to be any of that. Hope its not some kind of internal fault...

...anyway, I might head off and browse some Behringer forums and see if I cant find an answer there.

All the best with your recording and thanks again for the help.

btw, you've probably got enough recording software but I see Behringer are offering free downloads on their website at the link below:
