new business - am I eliglible for social welfare

I planned for some time to start with my business. As banks don't give money away anymore, I planned to save some cash from my current employer befoe I make my move.

I registered partnership with a collegue of mine (he was planning to do the same). At the moment I still didn't get the certificate. Thatwas something like 2 weeks ago.

Now imagine this - today I received a letter that my employer is not going to renew my contract and my employment ends on 2nd of October. I was working for the company for a little bit over two years, so technically I am eliglible for Jobseekers Allowance. Wouldn't the fact that I'm in the process of registering a partnership interfere with the JA?

As far as I know it works like this:
It depends on how many days per week this takes up. If you can do it all in one day then the dole may deduct just one day from your payments as you would not be available for work on that day.

Sorry to hear about that, I hope it works out for you.

If it's any consolation, you deserve it more than 80% (last year I would have said 95% but there are a lot of genuine people unfortunately on it now) of the scumbags currently on it. I know this because I was in the post office yesterday sending off a parcel and it was a total joke.

I would have the same interpretation as maxwell smart. It can vary a lot really though.

    found this:
Self-employed people pay Class S PRSI. Class S PRSI only covers you for certain social welfare payments. It does not cover you for Jobseeker’s Benefit.

However, if you worked as an employee in the last 4 years, you may have paid Class A PRSI and should apply to your Social Welfare Local Office for Jobseeker’s Benefit. Your Social Welfare Local Office will check their records to find out whether you have enough Class A contributions to get Jobseeker’s Benefit.

If you get Jobseeker’s Benefit you may continue to do some work. However, you must have lost at least one day of employment and as a result of this loss be unemployed for at least 3 days out of 6 days. Your earnings must also have been reduced because of the loss of employment.

For example, if you are engaged under a contract for service to work (on a self-employed basis) for 3 days per week and unemployed for the remainder of the week, you may qualify for Jobseeker’s Benefit. Jobseeker’s Benefit is taxable.

If you do not qualify for Jobseeker’s Benefit you may get Jobseeker’s Allowance. When you apply for Jobseeker’s Benefit you will be asked if you want to be assessed for Jobseeker’s Allowance if your claim for Jobseeker’s Benefit is unsuccessful.
