You'll definately have to bring your own pots and pans, cutlery, aswell as duvets and sheets.
Your actually supposed to get a list though , I'd recommend ringing up the Halls accommodation office just to make sure to bring the stuff they don't provide you with!

Really? They used to tell us what we needed back in my day, have they sent out the hand book yet?

Anyway, you'll need bed linen, kitchen cutlery, pans, saucepans and a TV.

Not yet anyway. I got the orientation pack for trinity but nothing about Halls in there.

Anyone know if a 360 can work online in the halls?
[I'm hoping for a miracle here  ..But somehow I doubt they've got all the ports open, and whatever else..]

Doubt it tbh. I'd say you could if you were really that determined, but is it worth giving up your axx to the net?
    what about RS downloads actually?

of course it'll work. Port forwarding is normally straight forward in college as long as you have your login details from what i've heard.

like, if you're doing something you shouldn't be doing, IE bitTorrent, they could take away our axx. Im not chancing it, Im gonna ask them up there before I do anything Lol.

If you mean rapidshare, it does work. It's very quick indeed, too.

    Hi OP,

You'll get an inventory the day you arrive at Hall. In the meantime it reads (roughly!) as follows:

    Bedroom/Bathroom:
    -Bin in each
    -Toilet brush
(As well as storage, bed, desk, chair, mirror)

    Kitchen:
-An array of bins (for recycling etc)
    -Mop
    -Sweeping brush
    -Sink Tidy
    -Food saver/glass chopping board
    -Dustpan and Brush
    -Hoover
(As well as table, chairs, coffee table, soft furniture)

You need to bring your own linen, cutlery, pots, pans etc. I'd also advise bringing your own ethernet cable, but you can buy them from the office at Hall for about €5.

    Is there wireless??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭t0mm

No, only some blocks have wireless, for most you need an ethernet cable, and there are only ports in your rooms, all the kitchens I new of had ports but they didn't work.

Would ethernet work for a PS3?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40 Ruined_Silver

€5 isn't THAT bad for an Ethernet cable though? ..How long are they??
    (Yes, size matters ..lol)

Hell Yeah!!!!! Maybe a bit of Cyanide???

Didnt know you liked YYZ...You have gone up in my estimation Al.

We could always get a couple of us to go inzies on a PS3. I'm sure I could find one on ebay for half nothing!

Saw that earlier somewhere, but just go to ikea. they have frying pans for 2.80. I spent 30 euro there and got everything I need, bar a duvet.

If only IKEA did cheap degrees.

Most ports are closed. Basically only 80 and 443 are open.

Anything else has to go through a SOCKS proxy.

They provide next to nothing. It looks like they tried really hard to fill up their inventory list, I mean you would hardly be required to provide your own bed, or curtains. They might as well of put roof and walls onto that list.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8 dnicholas79

    hey thanks for the list

Speak to your JCR technical officer :)

Ah, I always wondered what the other candidate had that I didn't. ;)

I had heard that the JCR were planning their own independent WiFi network within Halls, and if that's true, then it's up to them to allow XBL or whatever else. I imagine it's much easier to pester the JCR than it is to pester ISS - and on top of that, JCR Wifi would presumably be funded with residents' fees, which means that we actually have the right to do what the hell we want with it (within reason).

Getting XBL to work on the actual college network... I don't know if it's even theoretically possible to do without some major drawback. I mean, you could do something like route it through Tor, but that would kill your ping (presuming you could even find a relay that allows XBL). You could tunnel it, but you'd need somewhere with a connection you can... use...

    HOLD ON A DAMN MINUTE.

If one has a seedbox, can one tunnel to it and use it for XBL? Holy god damn I need to know this.

I don't know how the XBL connection works, but I do this for all of my PC's traffic (internet browsing, games, voice comms etc) and it works fine.
