iPhone Protection: What do you use?

Just got my new 3GS and I don't know if I'm too fond of the cases.

My number 1 preference would be to have it naked without any protection at all, but I guess it's just so much hassle then if I drop it or scratch it or anything.

So I've got the screen protectors.

Now I don't know whether to use a hard case, or something like the InvisibleSHEILD that covers the whole iPhone.

I'm pretty sure the hard case would help if I dropped the iPhone, but the InvisibleSHEILD looks so much better. :( [and still protects from scratches]

Just to sure what I should do, any suggestions?

    What do you use?

    anti-glare screen protectors.

if it falls it falls, my original iphone was dropped 100's of times from launch day in US to launch day of 3G S in US.

i know it would suck if it falls, but i'm extremely careful with it not out of my pocket unless absolutely necessary.

cases are way to bulky for my liking.

Check out "marware" online. Using mine now so can't post a link. Love it to bits and most importantly it doesn't take away from the screen like others do.

Any tips for putting on the screen protectors?

Gonna go crazy with all the bubbles and stuff here

yes, line it up with the home button end of the phone and make sure it goes over the home button without bubbles.

then get a credit card / debit card / etc. and slowly slide the card up the phone ensuring it touches the protector and the phone.

this will ensure that the minimal amount of bubbles are present. you can push them out to the side as well after the protector is applied but don't rely on this as if there's a speck of dirt or lint it will create a bubble that you can't get rid off unless you reapply the protector.

    Worked that out alright.

After spendig aaages trying to get them on right, I finally did - The only problem being it now makes the screen look a bit grainy...

    :(

Think I'm gonna have to go without one unless there's a better brand or something.

I'm in the same boat- I bought an ifrogz case but the sides have cracked and bits come off already and the screen protector won't go on....

Are all screen protectors more or less the same, which one would someone recommend?

    Cheers,
    Pa.

I've absolutely no protection on my iPhone 3G. And never have. It looks so much better. I have a friend who uses a screen protector and it makes it look kinda cheap.
I don't look after my iPhone in particular I leave it in my pocket or on the table. The back is a little scratched but that doesn't bother me. The front is absolutely flawless after a year. Just give it a wipe and it's as good as new. I think the screen is extremely well protected as is.

I do have insurance against accidental damage so not over worried about dropping it. But if it's just the screen you're worried about I wouldn't bother with a screen protector.

I'm just using a Invisible Shield. Can't fault it.

Completely agree with A Doozer. I have this one from Marware and of all the cases I've tried I think it is the best by miles. It is sleek, keeps the phone well protected, (mine has survived a 15ft fall onto my conservatory, don't ask) and the home button is still easy to access which I think is a major problem with a lot of the cases available, especially if you've got big sausage fingers like me! :)

Also some kind of screen protector is essential although I hear the 3GS is coated with something that reduces fingerprint smudges by a lot?

I got 2 with my RebelSerpent case - Failed with both.

Was gonna give up but decided to get 2 more the next day separately.

First one failed the same, and I was too afraid to try the remaining one.

So after looking up loads of stuff I noticed people saying how the adhesive was silicon and not glue, so you could wash it.

And sure enough, the 2 that I destroyed yesterday - under the tap and give them a good scrub - they're prefect again! :D

It was just dust sticking to it and creating air bubbles, but the wash removes everything from then.

Bit late for yourself though I'm guessing? :p

Grainy? What brand did you use.

I found Invisible shield by Zagg very grainy. I used the full body shield. I find it excellent on the front, easy to get on. It actually cleans itself in my pocket. There hard to get them on the back though(Thing they all are). You need to give yourself lots of time putting them on.

    SwitchEasy.

Not hugely grainy, but you can definately notice it in whiter pages, eg. in Mail.

So tempted to go without anything now more than ever.

Just keep thinking that it will end up destroyed if I do.

    Or at least an InvisibleSHEILD.

So you don't use a case at all?

I would not Buy the Zagg invisable shield again. I had one on my iPod touch. I much prefer "the full body shield".
I would recommend everyone to get some sort of screen/back shield. At least you dont have to worry about it when you take it out of the case. Give these things a 360 turn and there scratched.

No I dont use a case. For me they just add too much bulk. Would just wreck my head. Iphone is already bulky enough. It's either in my pocket or on a table/counter. I dont wanna have a phone that i am constantly worried about. Phones by there nature get thrown around a bit. The "full body shield" is perfect for that.
