Slow USB transfer speeds on Macbook Pro

Has anyone else noticed this? My MBP (2006) has always had slow transfer speeds over its USB ports but I've only really noticed how slow today. Using a USB stick on my PC transfers files much faster than my MBP. I only get 2MB/s copy speeds on my MBP. They are both USB 2.0 machines. Is there something wrong here, or is…

usb 2.0 sticks vary alot on speed. generally cheap ones are pretty slow
