what do you mean use the energy? like feel a positive effect from eating the banana or harnessing the power of it to improve your workout???

I imagine he means how long before the banana has be converted into energy the body can use.

the question should really be how quickly is a banana digested and convered into available sugar - for most people less than 30mins so terrible food to have outside of workouts but good after, during and before when energy is low.

For anyone overweight bananas would be a very bad choice outside of workout times and i would even limit them for workouts unless really necessary.

Have to agree with Mr T on that. Bananas alone before a workout can lead to energy crash during the workout. Something slightly more complex like granary bread etc would be the better bet

What do you reckon of First thing in the morning for banannas?
I use them as a base for a smoothie, helps me wake up.

I would seriously recommend apples over bananas. Apples are a true wonder food - release their energy slowly and plenty of fibre to keep you fuller for longer. Bananas are crammed with sugar (albeit natural) and leave you crashing and starving again within 20-30 minutes!

Bananas as a food have numerous health benefits over apples.Actually bananas are the wonder food, not apples.

    Excuse me?

    Excuse me?
please do not send me a PM again saying whats with the attitude address me here please - there is no attitude.

Your questions were simply answered and then you throw back the positive feedback with 'bananas are the wonderfood' -

i really could not give a hoot that you think i have an attitude over your replies as i give out helpful info and have done so for a loooong time so excuse me if i am brunt as i get frustrated with some comments from some posters when the info is correct and expecially when its coming from reallllly experienced people.

So finally, bananas are a great food (not a superfood) but for 99% of people due to their high GI rate should only be used after, during and possibly before workouts.

this is just another classic case of people getting annoyed when they are being told something they dont want to hear (eventhough the advice is accurate / sound) - obviously apples will be better than bananas for anybody trying to lose fat, on the otherhand if your lean and already at a low body fat they have their place.

Jaysus people. Take it easy please.

Edit: and the OP never asked anything about bananas or for any advice relating to them. This is another classic example of the fitness forum going overboard. Chill y'all'er knickers.

I like bananas over apples but sometimes I will eat an apple probably a red one because my tummy handles them better than the green ones but bananas are probably my favourite, yep definitely favourite

I thought he asked about the energy giving properties of bananas no? :)

In any case, this whole thread is bananas. I'm off to grab an apple :)

I've replaced bananas with oatcakes for my pre-workout snack, and have the banana afterwards with my protein shake.
Find I'm less likely to crash towards the end of a workout that way.
