Sourcing a replacement lcd for a laptop

Does anybody know if there are generic laptop lcd's that fit a range of laptops? If they are all different wouldn't laptop repair companies have to carry a huge variety, especially those that do same day repair? I have looked at ebay and some uk based sites and the sell model specific lcds for what seem like high prices.
