Hi all, so being a recent casualty I signed up to the labour office the other week. Does anyone know how long it takes for an application to go through? IM very strapped for money at the moment and im stumped as to where to go, especially if the claim is gonna take ten weeks or so to go through as i've been hearing!

It depends on what you applied for and where you applied. For the stamps-based jobseekers benefit, the wait time will be much less...it was 5 weeks for me in swords. For the means tested jobseekers allowance, you will be waiting much longer, months.

In the meantime, you can go to your local community welfare officer at your local health center and apply for Supplementary Welfare allowance which is a means tested payment the HSE give you while you are waiting for your application to be processed. Once you give all the relevant documentation in, you'll get some income straight away. In my case, my SWA claim was processed in one day.

cheers for that. I signed on for benefit so hopefully it wont take too long. In the mean time i'l check out the community welfare office. Im still living at home although i dont get any assistance from my parents so hopefully that wont go against me!
