    Hi Folks,

I'm here to wish you all well for the year ahead and let you know a bit about our organisation. You may have heard of us, maybe you haven't. In any such case Niteline is an anonymous, confidential, non-directive and non-judgemental listening service that has been offering a friendly ear to students for over 15 years now.

We run under the basis that we offer a viable alternative for people to turn to: we all go through tough spots at various stages of our lives, including college, and it's natural that we talk about it to get things off our chest. Everyone does it - you need only think about the last time you were stressed and remember who you turned to - we all need to be heard. Sometimes, however, our great friends don't always make great listeners. Sometimes you just want to express yourself while your friend/relation thinks that you're looking for advice, or doesn't really appreciate what you're going through. Rather than being the one who's reflecting on the issue you're told what to do, what not to do and in some cases just dismissed by the people you should be able to talk to if something's bothering you.

Other times matters come up that affect you but you'd prefer not to go to certain friends or family about it. We're here for all you in that regard. Our volunteers are trained to deal with a great deal of issues and for students of all backgrounds. People will often associate us as a last resort but more than often we're also a first port of call.

We hope it's a great year for you and that the tough times are few and far between but if you ever do need someone who will just listen we're here throughout the term:

Freephone 1800 793 793 (won't show up on your bill)
    Thursdays - Sundays: 9pm - 2.30am
    Mondays: 9pm - 1.30am
(Term time - starting Sept 24th)

We're also looking to recruit new volunteers at the moment. If you're interested in signing up visit our webiste www.niteline.ie. Please note that we do not take first year students.

    Best wishes,

    The Niteline team

Hello again all, just to say that tomorrow (30th) is the last day for applications to become a volunteer.

If you are interested in getting involved in a volunteer capacity while also looking for the social side of a society Niteline might be for you. All volunteers are fully trained to deal with all types of calls while the service itself is a very sociable one. So if you're looking to help people while meet people as well you should consider signing up.

    Regards one and all,

    Niteline team

I called nightline a few days ago just to see what it is. Doesn't seem very useful.

Why don't you phone The Samaritans for the craic and compare the two?

Hello again one and all. I hope the term is going well for everyone.

If you're free on Thursday 12th from 1-2pm feel free to pop up to the Student Union Centre. Niteline will be celebrating its birthday with a cake cutting so come for a slice and a hug from either our Hug Bear and/or phone.

Hope to see you all there,

    The Niteline team

    Hey,

    Hope you're all well.

Niteline would like to gauge your views on a few matters in a survey, which can be found in the link below. It should only take a minute to complete and would greatly help us in our bid to continue improving our services. Your participation will be anonymous and will be very greatly appreciated.

Please feel free to give us a ring during the term if anything, whether its big or small, is bothering you. That's what we're here for.

    Best wishes,

    The Niteline team.

Can someone give me a bit of info on volunteering, the site doesn't have a huge amount of details.

You have to have a college year under your belt and you have to sign up for two years but whats involved in that two years, how often would you be on hand during the week etc?

Also i know its kept very discreet but would you be on campus doing it or is it in town?

    Cheers.
