    Hey!
I was thinking of applying to the UK to study medicine. I know the deadline is near now for UKCAT, so could people give me any information on it? I got 580 in the LC, and and I am going to take the year out and resit the HPAT again next February. My careers guidance teacher said that I would have a better chance of getting into Ireland, but I am thinking of the UK as a backup. I know its very competitive for medicine, so what would be my chances in getting in?

I will greatly appreciate any comments ASAP! Need to make up my mind soon.....eek.gif

I know someone who got 550 and got straight into med in the UK. I did pharmacy in the UK. I got 510 and got offers from every place I applied to. This was 6 years ago now tho, things may have gotten harder.

Well theres the aptitude test, UKCAT, now, and theres the interview, of which Im sure was there a few years ago. Dont know when the UKCAT was introduced. But I assume it must be very hard to get in over there with medicine. I dont know what my chances would be now...

Well they don't look at CAO points rather at individual grades for specific subjects. Go on to the UCAS site and do a course search for medicine, you'll find entry requirements for each med school there. You'll have to write a personal statement in which they'll expect you to describe any work experience you've done, why you want to study medicine, extra-curricular activities/hobbies etc. You also need a reference from one of your teachers at school.

Is there anything else that people could add? What would be my chances in getting into the Uk in the end anyway? I read some literature on it and its around and below 30%. And I was told that this includes both english and foreign applicants?
